Several Useful Mobile Location Based Apps
With the number of smart phone users rising, the application of location based mobile services is widely seen as a new frontier in consumer marketing. There are several useful location based mobile applications:
Foursquare - Foursquare combines the community features of a good location based social network, with the competitive features of a scavenger hunt on steroids. Users compete for points in their city, user badges, and vie for the prestigious spot of “mayor” for different location. Once you get started with Foursquare, it is hard to stop! In 2010 Foursquare grew from zero to 4 million users in a few months.
Brightkite - BrigtKite is available on any mobile device, users “check in” by using text messaging or an app, they can see who is nearby and who has been there before, also can handle photos and status updates, plus you can cross post your updates to a variety of social media websites.

Loopt - Loopt help users find and enjoy the friends, places and events around them right now, and offer a variety of a variety of effective and intuitive privacy controls.
Koprol - Koprol works on any phone browser and doesn’t require GPS, it has a growing directory of places where you can “check-in” and trade comments, share photos and reviews, with your friends and other people nearby. From 25 May 2010 called Yahoo! Koprol.
Twitxr - Twitxr is Twitter but allows picture uploads when sending a message, it’s a photoblog. There’s also an interesting Friends Map where you can see in general where your friends are globally distributed.
Moximity - Moximity is a location based app that allows you to connect with friends in your vicinity, and see where they are at the moment. The idea is to facilitate in-person interactions with your friends.
Whrrl - whrrl is a social location based game with a purpose to get people out into the world trying new things. In Whrrl, people join societies, which are passion groups for the real world. People in Whrrl earn “influence points” as they try new things and successfully inspire others to try things, and they share their adventures by sharing photos and text with friends and other society members.
Buzzd - Buzzd is a real time social city guide for your mobile device. Users rate places with a thumbs up or down, post venue reviews and connect with friends in the area.
