Organising Your Own Festival-style Wedding
These days anything goes when it comes to your wedding, and more and more couples are choosing to put their own stamp on their nuptials by having a festival style wedding in their garden.
This style of event is perfect for a summer wedding and you can really use the festival theme to put your own personality into your special day. As your wedding will be in your garden there is no need to search for a venue, and it also means you can have your wedding exactly how YOU want it – nobody else can tell you what to do!
Legal restrictions in the UK may stop you from getting married in your garden, so most couples choose to get married at a church or registry office and then hold a festival-style wedding reception in their garden. You could always consider having a blessing ceremony at the reception, so that you have the feeling of getting married in the great outdoors without any legal complications.
As with any wedding you will need to think about a guest list and get your invitations out early. Use your invitations to explain the style of your wedding and inform your guests of what to expect. You may also ...
... want to tell your guests to bring wellies and waterproof clothing in case of bad weather! Send your invitations out early to make sure that everyone can come.
Once you have decided on a guest list, you can get on with the real fun of planning. Music lovers will really enjoy this bit as it’s a chance to pick your favourite local bands for your wedding. Make sure you have a budget to pay the acts, or negotiate a deal by offering the bands a favour in return. Also ask friends to call in favours – you might even be able to get a famous act to appear!
As well as music, you could also consider comedy acts or drama. You should also make sure that there are other activities, especially if you are inviting children to your wedding. Consider hiring a children’s entertainer or organising games that the whole family can get involved in. Also make sure that you have a space for people to sit and relax, as they may not want to watch the bands or take part in activities all of the time.
A big thing to remember is to provide enough toilet facilities for your guests. In order to keep your guests where the action is and avoid them wandering off, hire portable toilets for your garden. This will stop people wandering into your house looking for the loo, or even worse, relieving themselves in your garden! Make sure you order enough portable toilets for the amount of guests you have – the portable toilet company will be able to give you more information.
Once you have all the practical things in place, you can enjoy adding all those personal touches to your special day such as decorating your garden and choosing the food. Then relax and enjoy your festival wedding – safe in the knowledge that your guests will have a whole lot of fun!
