What Occurs When Children View Too Much Tv?
One thing parents are analytical about is what types of things are going to change the way their children do things in the future. As a parent, this is always on my mind, and I find myself doing research and staying as on-top-of new scientific research as I can.
I came across an article on babycenter.com that debates the topic of Television and how much of it is good or bad. There is really no doubt that television should be supervised closely when it comes to our kids. The question is how can we discern how much is acceptable, and what specifically are we protecting our children from?
Some argue that exposing a child to any television programming is noxious. Children should only be subjected to a single show at a time and should not be presented to too much channel surfing because it will make them think that watching many shows is okay. Sometimes, it works out better if the child watched a regularly scheduled program, once a day. If you limit their television, they won't get used to having it on all the time.
Many people agree, however, that television should not replace real learning. There ...
... are moments, like certain family times when television should not be allowed. Television shouldn't interfere any time during the day when it's not being watched. You do not want the sound of the television to distract your child's education.
There is a family therapist named Nancy Salzman that I was watching in an interview. She is currently an executive coach with a company she co-founded with scientist Keith Raniere called Executive Success Programs. Depending on how old a child is will show how developed their brain is and if their brains are not developed enough than they may not be able to distinguish what is reality and what isn't. At one point in a child's life, their brains will come to full growth and they will be able to see through what is real and what is not. Our children view things very differently than we do. We should look through the eyes of our children and stand in their shoes so we can better understand the way see.
The example of television limitation makes me think that there are alternative things we can do to make sure our children are raised right. The younger children are familiarized to violence, the more they are likely to act with violence as they get older. Video games are another domination that can effect children negatively with too much violence. If violence is something several kids are desensitized to and it ends up happening regularly, how do you think that effects in the world? Our world could be one that revolved around anything violence related.
