Just like any other new business, you have to advertise your printing company as its operations starts. Many people put this off because of the expenses it entails. They wait for business to come in before advertising.

That is a wrong notion. Advertising should be part of capitalization—a necessary expense in order to get people to come to you. While word of mouth advertising is also effective, that will take some time to spread in your case as a commercial printer because you are not a consumer good that people will buy every day. Target businesses, institutions, and government offices as potential clientele since these are the ones needing printed materials for their own operations.

1. Point of Sale Banners - One of the best things that you can do is to dress up the exterior of your office with point of sales banners. You can just have designs printed on tarpaulin and these can be glued to the flat surfaces in front of your office. This will be good because such businesses that are far away from you and do not pass by your office will know that you are in business. Have a good design made, something that is eye-catching and has a clear message because people who are looking at them do not have a lot of time to stay and read. So think brainstorm about your design before having banners printed.

3. Flyers - You can also have flyers printed, after all you are a printing company and the labor and materials for your flyers can be at cost. You can then hire somebody to give out your fliers or you can have them inserted in the local paper so that when they distribute their paper, their subscribers can get to read your flyers. The insertion service is cheap. There is just a risk that they might miss inserting your flyer in some copies or these might fall off during delivery.

4. Print Ads - One of the most effective ways of letting the community know that you are in business is to advertise in the paper. However, a single full-page ad can be expensive. You can ask some of your suppliers to provide a greeting ad during your opening to catch the attention of passersby. You can do the layout of the greeting ads so that you can include your services as well as your contact details. Then just submit camera-ready material or the digital file to the newspaper office.

There are many ways that you can advertise your commercial printing company without having to spend so much. The bottom line is that you have to get the word out that you are already a commercial printer and you want people’s business.
