Tv Show Highlight Importance Of Furniture For Hotels

The latest series of a popular Channel 5 show has highlighted the importance of choosing the right hotel furniture to help ensure success.
In The Hotel Inspector, award-winning hotelier Alex Polizzi has resumed her quest to salvage some of Britain's worst-run hotels and bed-and-breakfast establishments.
The granddaughter of Lord Forte and the niece of Sir Rocco Forte, she has repeatedly demonstrated that she has all the industry experience and authority needed to turn flagging hotels into profitable ventures.
Alex has also proved that there is more to running a profitable hotel than ensuring comfortable beds, a room with a view, a friendly service and good food.
For help in transforming the many businesses featured in the seventh series of the show, which is being broadcast in April and May 2012, the producers turned to a leading supplier of hotel and restaurant furniture, Warings Furniture. In the past the company has also worked with celebrity chief Jamie Oliver on his Restaurant 15 project.
Graham ...
... Waring, director at Warings Furniture says that the right furniture selection is crucial to a hotel or B & B's success. Hotel furniture choice can speak volumes about your establishment, and should ooze quality and style as soon as people walk in the front door, he explains.
A shabby first impression in reception can be an immediate turn-off and will ultimately impact of the profitability of the business.
Hannah Cork, makeover producer for the series said the firm had been instrumental to the success of the makeovers, showcasing bespoke furniture in six featured hotels, all very successfully.
Whether you are looking to refurbish a hotel or restaurant, or opening one for the first time, the choice of furniture should be at the heart of the planning process and influence many other decisions such as colour scheme and lay out.
Graham goes on to explain that restaurant tables and restaurant chairs are the main focal point of a restaurant, where customers sit, chat and enjoy their meal. They immediately set the tone and offer customers a tantalizing hint of what is to come.
First and foremost, the furniture needs to be practical as well as stylish. Comfort is an obvious consideration, diners will not enjoy their meal if they feel too low, too high or their bottom starts to go numb!
There are other considerations too, such as the choice of materials. For example, fully upholstered chairs, for example, will tend to muffle echoes, particularly important if your restaurant has wooden floors. Glides on the bottom of wooden chairs should also be specified to cut down noise.
When it comes to style, the height of your chairs might be determined by the height of your ceilings. Low backed chairs give a more roomy feel, whereas high backed chairs will draw the eye to the ceiling in a cosy restaurant.
When it comes to hotel furniture and B&B furniture, style is particularly important as it gives an instant indication of the type of establishment you are running. Poor quality furniture will soon start to look shabby and make the whole hotel look run down whilst too much of a mix of different style will look confused and poorly planned.
After all, if the proprietors can’t get the furniture right guests will automatically believe that not much thought has gone into any other services.
Mixing styles, for example traditional and ultra-modern, can be done – but it is a very difficult trick to pull off. Therefore it often makes sense to pick a style that will appeal to your target market and then stick to it throughout.
As with all successful business ventures, research is vitally important. When you are planning to open or refurbish a hotel or restaurant there will obviously be plenty of demands on your time, but spend as much time as you can afford visiting other establishments to give you an idea of what your competitors are doing.
This will give you a better understanding of what works and what doesn’t and, combined with plenty of time spent browsing through brochures and style magazines, it will give you a clearer sense of direction.
Furthermore, setting time aside for such important ‘homework’ will ensure that your hotel furniture or restaurant furniture is central to your planning and does not end up a rushed afterthought that could lead to costly mistakes.
