Budget-friendly Postcards
Postcards are great tools in letting people know what you had been up to (like travelling) or how you like now (if you are already married and with kids). Surely there are already social networking sites, where with you can hook up with your friends and family members from far and wide, but if you are not just the techie type and you get a panic attack just by opening a computer program opt for the personalized creation. You like getting in touch with family and friends from time to time and the most economical way to do it is by sending your own mailers that are a product of your postcard printing.
You will only need a few materials for your postcard project. If you are already into crafts, you will not have to buy new supplies like card stock, glue, colored pens, crayons, stickers, and embellishments. If ever, the only thing that you will have to spend on will be prints of your latest shots like your vacation photos or studio portraits, which you can have done at the local photo lab if you could not print it yourself. You can probably have 2”x3” prints only so that they are small enough for you use and still have ...
... space left to embellish the card.
Cut out a stock card the size of a 6”x4”—the standard postcard size. If you want, cut another piece of colored paper of the same size, or you may use those nice wrapping papers, and stick it on the stock card. That would provide a colorful background for your card.
Then cut out a shape for your photograph using some shearing scissors. If you are sending the card to a family member, then maybe you can cut out a heart shape. If you are going to send it to a friend, then a simple polygon would do. The shearing scissors will just give the photo some nice shaped edges.
Paste the photo anywhere on the card, preferably on one side. Put some embellishments around it, like ribbons or stickers to make a border. On the blank space of the card, put in a greeting. Or you can maybe add another photo and just put a title or the subject of your photos like “Happy Family” or “Hawaii Memories”, whatever is appropriate for your photos. You can write these words or cut out colored letters from a magazine to make your work interesting. You can then use colorful dust to make your card shiny. Just make sure that you paste everything down and let your design dry completely before turning it around and writing on the other side.
When your design is dry, you can proceed to writing your message and your recipient’s details at the back. Buy your stamps and paste it yourself. Do not let your design go through the postal machines because it will just ruin it.
You can make as many postcards without having to spend so much. Plus it gets your personalized touch. The mailing would also be cheaper than sending out a letter or a greeting card. And you will have a lot of fun with your postcard printing project. You can actually do this with your child as one of your bonding moments. Let him or her do the cards for individual relatives. Your children will surely enjoy doing one for his granny, grandpa, uncle, aunt or cousin.
