Trendnet would like to be the first manufacturer who ships the fastest wireless router into the market. The TEW-692GR becomes the first dual band wireless router with the speeds up to 450Mbps each band simultaneously. When Trendnet shipped the TEW-691GR wireless 450Mbps router, it was claimed to be the first router with 450Mbps in single 2.4GHz band in that time. Can this router compete with existing Wireless N750 routers?

Wireless routers with N750 technology support both 5GHz and 2.4GHz bands concurrently. They deliver different high speeds in each of its frequency bands. In 5GHz band, the routers deliver the speeds up to 450Mbps and in 2.4GHz band they deliver the speeds up to 300Mbps. Both bands work simultaneously doubling your bandwidth demand up to 750Mbps totally. There are some wireless routers with N750 technology available in the market today including Linksys E4200, Netgear WNDR4000 and Belkin N750 DB. With the features as advertised, will you consider to purchase the Trendnet TEW-692GR for your home network?

In selecting the wireless router, you should choose the router that meets to ...
... your needs. For example if you require the wireless environment for fast responsive streaming HD video and gaming, the router should feature high-speed, Quality of Service (QoS) and 5GHz support for clean network. If the high speed feature is the only factor you need to consider, the TEW-692GR is your router – the fastest router in its class. How do you compare the router with other N750 routers?

Ethernet Ports

Among the three N750 routers available in the market today, they are all equipped with Gigabit Ethernet ports for both LAN (4x) and WAN (1x) interfaces just like the TEW-692GR. Any computers with gigabit port ready can optimally connect to the router with gigabit speeds eliminating traffic bottleneck.

Currently there are few numbers of DOCSIS 3.0 cable modems that support Gigabit Ethernet port you can connect to the gigabit WAN port of the router for optimum data rate transfer between the router and the modem. But do not expect that your internet connection will be improved by connecting the gigabit ports between the modem and the router. The performance of your ISP takes important role in internet connectivity experiences. The higher the bandwidth you sign up with your ISP, the better the internet performance.

Regarding the gigabit Ethernet ports, all the routers have the same point.

Multiple SSIDs

Mostly the new generation of wireless routers today supports the guest network. With guest network you can create separate virtual wireless network with separate password to allow your guests to get internet access without granting your local network resources.
Linksys E4200 and Belkin N750 DB allow you create one guest network, while WNDR4000 allow you create guest network each band. With TEW-692GR, you can create up to four SSIDs each band. For home usage, will you need more than one guest network? But if you would like to use this router to support your small office that’ll be good you can separate the network to meet your business need.

USB Port

The TEW-692GR is the fastest dual band wireless router but unfortunately, like its previous version TEW-691GR, the router doesn’t support USB port to let you share the storage or printer. If you would like to use your wireless network to support your home theater environment, the capability of hosting a shared USB storage (with media server support) would be very advantageous.

Linksys E4200 and Wndr4000 are equipped with a single USB port to let you host shared storage. But you cannot use the port to host shared printer. With Linksys E4200 you can manage the network printer using the Cisco Connect Software. Belkin N750 DB includes two USB ports to let you share the storage and the printer at the same time. This is an ideal solution to support your “work and play” environment eliminating the wireless print-server. But if you demand high speed wireless network in both bands and you would like to support your small office, the TEW-692GR would be your router.

Netgear also releases a new WNDRMAC
N600 router
a true Mac router, but it looks like similar product as WNDR3800 N600 premium edition. Ki Grinsing was graduated from ITS Surabaya with prolonged years of experiences in IT projects.
