He was very insistent that I build what he desired now, now, now. There would be no good reason I could provide for not doing it this weekend. However, I didn't want to have to drive all over town, so how was I going to get all the parts? For only five years old he already had the voice of a much older and more mature sixteen year old. Our house was to the north of where I was going to build his tree house. Having an entrance to the tree house and a window facing the house was definitely part of my plan. This was more for me to keep an eye on him than anything else. I decided to ring up my brother since I really had no clue about how to build this thing. It was his weekend off from being a dispatcher working at the police station. It was a good thing too because he really knows how to build. With no extra help at all, he spent last summer building a whole wing to his house. He put a corridor in that leads to a formal sitting room. From the sitting room there is a whole new bedroom with a full bath. He didn't just build the walls, he also put in the duct work and all of the electrical and plumbing too. I feel pretty comfortable with a hammer in my hand, but my brother is the one that really knows how to build things.

The supports that we used for the tree house were all his design. When we had that, he made sure we selected the sturdiest materials to use as our building materials. It didn't take much to talk him into going to the store with me to get the supplies. I appreciated it since he knew the store just about as good as anyone can. Since my son has his new tree house, I get some peace and quiet, and I don't regret giving in to my son like that (even though I don't normally like to do that). When it comes down to it, I got him a cool tree house so I could have my own house returned to me.
