Writing Project Proposal
1.0Introduction
Electronic commerce or e-commerce consists of the buying, selling, marketing, and servicing of products or services over computer networks. The information technology industry might see it as an electronic business application aimed at commercial transactions.
In this assignment, each group of students (maximum of 8 students per group) is required to write a proposal of an E-Commerce application. The chosen topic must belong to one of the following categories:
§Cosmetics and Fragrances
§Magazines and Books
§Electronic Products
2.0Objectives
§To propose an e-commerce website with functions needed for your company's scenario.
3.0Documentation Standards
Write your portal proposal according the Project Profiler as follows:
a)Background
§Give brief introduction about e-commerce web development
§What is the origin of the proposal - the particular problem or issue is addressed.
§Include contact ...
... information and a description of the group who will be working on the project. Who are the decision makers? Who's responsible for what? What human resources do you have for various stages of the process?
b)Problem Statement
§Please provide corporate and industry descriptions, including competitors, along with a brief critique of their sites.
c)Goal
§What is the mission statement or summary of your project? (e.g., branding/identity reinforcement, improved access to information, direct sales, corporate communication, etc.)
d)Objectives
§What are the tasks must be completed in order to achieve the goal of the project. (Describe any task that must be done toward designing and developing a new e-commerce application).
e)Expected results
§What is the proposal expected to produce in terms of specific results?
§Who will benefit and who is expected to pay for this?
f)Requirement analysis
§Hardware and software requirements
oWeb server, operating system, client-side technology, server site extension, database, hardware etc.
§Audience
oWhat types of visitors do you want to attract?
oWhat are your goals for each type of visitor? What are the products/services involved?
oWhat are your goals for these products/services?
§Content
oWhere will content come from?
oWill it be new, repurposed, or both?
oHow often will you add new content?
oWho will update the content?
§Functionality
oWhat functional requirements do you believe to be necessary? (e.g., database-driven web pages, shopping cart technology, online payment, promotions etc.)
oAre there extraordinary security issues?
oAre there other technical issues or limitations?
oHow will the site be served/hosted?
oWhat types of legacy systems/databases are in place?
oWhat is your long-term plan for the site?
g)Project implementation and management
§How will the project be carried out, in terms of a work plan, schedule of activities, and parties responsible for implementation management?
§Gantt chart is recommended!
h)Conclusion
§Benefits that end-user can gain from your website.
4.0Grading Criteria
a)Here are some of the things that will be looking for when grading your proposal:
·Give well organized and comprehensive write-up
·Error free - spelling, grammar
·Extra features which are not mentioned in Project Profiler section
b)This assignment is worth 5% of your assignment grade; your assignment grade, you will recall, is worth 10% of the total for the course. I will grade the assignment on a scale of 0 - 100 points, as follows:
§10 points for the background of the project
§10 points for the problem statement
§10 points for the goal and objectives
§5 points for the expected results
§50 points for the requirement analysis
§10 points for project implementation and management
§5 point miscellaneous

§Submission procedure: Hand in hard-copy of your document on 5 AUGUST 2005, before 5.00pm.
