Grandma Do Mathematical Olympiad With Grandson For Four Years
Grandma Tang is 65 years old this year. In 2006, her son died of illness. Since her daughter-in-law works away from home, the 5-year-old grandson Xiaohao (a pseudonym) is raised by her husband and her. Yesterday, Grandma Tang told the reporter: “I was busy with work when I was young, so I had no time to care my son’s learning. My son asked me to make Xiaohao study well before he died. And now I must shoulder this responsibility.”
Grandma Tang works in a company after retirement. She found that Xiaohao was particularly fond of mathematics. So from the second grade of primary school, she began to send him to an excellent well-known training institution of the city to study Mathematical Olympiad. “At first I was afraid that he would be too fond of play to study,” Grandma Tang said, “Every time he did homework after training, I would do with him together. I also sorted out notes according to the content he learned.”
When he was in Grade 4, he didn’t stand out in the training class. Grandma Tang was very worried, so she sent him to another training institution and arranged the training schedule full. ...
... “I found the focuses of the two institutions are different, so I didn’t want to lose either of them. On weekends, we’ll shuttle back and forth between the two places from morning to night.
Grandson was busy listening to lectures and doing exercise every day and grandma also had something to do. The second institution welcomed parents to attend training. And Grandma Tang became the most diligent person. She not only attended lectures with grandson, but also do exercise and sort out notes at home with him. “I studied accounting before. And I feel Mathematical Olympiad is still pretty difficult to learn. I will also make mistakes sometimes and have to wait for teacher's standard answer.”
Accompanying with grandson for 4 years, Grandma Tang either went to work or learned Mathematical Olympiad.
Grandma Tang’s behavior received strong opposition from her husband: “It is enough for Xiaohao to attend only one training institution. What you are doing will make him too tired.”
But Grandma Tang’s goal is very high. She hopes Xiaohao could go to the best junior high school of the city—“Rocket Class”. “It is very important to lay a good foundation.”
