What Humans Think Of Technological Advancements
It is no secret that technology is advancing quicker than any other part of our lives. There are many individuals who are breached over the subject. An example of a type of community that limits their use of technology is the Amish communities. There is a general agreement that some people can use technology for negative purposes. We could publicly see some of the effects that negative use of technology has had on our society. Does this mean that technology is actually bad?
There is an organization called the NXIVM who's founder, Keith Raniere, thinks that technology is best suited for individuals who would use it with a sense of ethics. In this scenario, I imagine that if a person's ethics match the technology being used, then technology can be the incredible thing that it is, free from fear of how it will be misused.
If we want increasingly enriched living, we can use technology. But what is it? It's collective scientific discoveries of people, put to use in some kind or practical way. It can be a way of doing things, an invention or simply something someone can use. Perhaps the greatest thing about ...
... technology is that it is a combined effort of ideas and innovations, one generation building upon the accomplishments of the one before. How could this possibly be bad or dangerous?
Technology will either be utilized as a weapon against humanity or for its good depending on the user's ethics. Technology is a science that could either be good or bad but it directly relies on who is controlling the reigns in the situation. The organization NXIVM thinks that humanity should use both ethics and technology together.
We should use ethics because they are our internal conscience that allows us to use things for good based on our positive thinking and troubleshooting. Is there something that we can do as a society to stop this? Could the only way to make a good world for ourselves be do go away with technology all together? Would this fix the problem, or would people find a way to hurt each other anyway, with clubs instead of guns?
If everyone thought differently in the world and only desired to do good things, then people would not have the problems that we do today. Taking away technology, like computers and even electricity, would not affect whether these people hurt each other or not. People would have to learn to survive without technology and that would be the single consequence that would happen if it was destroyed. Limited technology in this case just means people have less ways to express and experience themselves and others.
NXIVM makes a good point in the fact that we should utilize both ethics and technology to make the universe a better place. This would mean positive things all around.
