Tyres For Summer And Winter
Design and technology in tyres has developed over the years, just as vehicles have been. This helps them in coping with heavier and faster cars with more advanced braking systems. Winter tyres have been specially developed over a long period of time to adapt to extreme winter and work best in temperatures below 7 degrees Celsius. They look like the normal ones we use but they perform very differently.
At temperatures below 7 degrees Celsius, the rubber molecules in summer tyres tend to harden and freeze. They become less able to adapt to the contour of the surface of the road. This leads to a considerable reduction in grip levels. Tyre rubber can have different effects when it comes in contact with hot roads. The ones used for summer or hot seasons have softer rubber than other types. They have a viscosity to them that lets them get a better grip on the road. They also come with specially designed treads to get better traction on wet roads. The tread patterns on these are designed to channel the water up and away from the car. Even though they can provide better grip and smoother rides, they wear out faster than ...
... winter and all-season tyres.
People think that it is okay to use winter tyres all year round. This is completely false as they are not made to perform at high temperatures or on wet or dry roads. Temperature still plays a huge role in the longevity and performance of a tyre, even though technology has advanced by leaps and bounds. Due to this, there are winter, summer and all-season tyres available to suit any climate. All-season tyres are made to be used for any season of the year but their performance is not as good as the ones made specifically for winter or summer.
Cold weather tyres should be narrower than others since they have to plow through snow and slush. The pressure must be checked regularly and more often during winter due to the fact that it will drop during cold weather. With summer tyres, the width and grooves should be taken into consideration. If it is too wide, it can lead to hydroplaning. Narrow ones should be chosen if the roads to be traveled are consistently wet.
Suitable tyres should be used during winter as they are cheaper due to their smaller size. A lot of money can be saved this way as expensive summer ones will not be worn out unnecessarily.
