A Review Of The Popular Nokia N8 And The Stylish Nokia X7
The Nokia N8 has proven to be a successful handset for the manufacturer, but can this success be matched with the firm’s new X7 smartphone? In this article I will compare some of the key features of these two handsets so you can decide for yourself.
Camera
One of the main selling points of the Nokia N8 was its 12 megapixel digital camera. This is one of the highest resolutions available on a cameraphone, and as you can imagine it produces superb quality results. The camera comes with many bells and whistles you would expect from such a high end device; face detection, autofocus, Xenon flash and even Carl Zeiss optics. All impressive specs, but how does the camera on the X7 measure up? A slightly lower resolution at 8 megapixels, but still produces great results. The camera also comes with several features found on the N8 such as a flash, face detection and the ability to shoot 720p HD video. Aside from the resolution, the cameras are fairly evenly matched, but if you are a photography enthusiast the N8 may be your preferred choice between the two.
Screen
Both handsets are touchscreen operated, utilising ...
... AMOLED capacitive touchscreen technology. The screen on the X7 is slightly larger at 4 inches compared to the 3.5 inch screen of the N8. This makes the X7 slightly more suited to multimedia use; with a bigger screen for viewing photos, videos, playing games and browsing the web. The resolutions of the screens are both 360x 640, meaning that the display quality on both is very good.
Aesthetic Styling
Style conscious users are more likely to prefer the Nokia X7 over the Nokia N8. The N8 looks more “basic” than the X7, which has clearly been designed to look more stylish with its angular corners and silver trim down the side. That said, the Nokia N8 is available in several colour variants, making it a head turning handset should you opt for one of the colour schemes which include White, Green, Blue and Orange.
Operating System
The Nokia N8 utilises the Symbian 3 software platform whereas the OS of the X7 is an updates version of Symbian named Symbian Anna OS. Both of these offer an intuitive and functional user interface, and both have the same 660 MHz ARM processor to provide the computing power to run demanding applications and keep the handset running smoothly.
There is much more to each handset than what I have covered in this article, but by comparing some of the key features we can come to a conclusion about the devices; both handsets are great and offer many impressive features. The Nokia X7 offers several more recent developments in smartphone technology such as the updated operating system, although hardware wise they are very similar, with the Nokia N8 even offering a higher resolution camera. All in all there is very little to choose between the two with features such as the camera likely to be a deciding factor for those choosing between the two.
