Tennant Creek
Tennant creek is a beautiful township located in Central Australia at a distance of about 500 kms from Alice Springs and 1000 kms south of Darwin at the intersection of the Stuart and Barkly highways.
Tennant creek is located at an altitude of 377 m above sea level and has an annual rainfall of about 470mm.It is named after the water body Tennant creek by John McDouall Stuart after the pastoralist John Tennant who financed Stuart's expeditions of exploring Australia. The lovely township has a population of about 4000 people out of which approximately 1500 are Aboriginals.
Tennant creek locals are very warm and friendly people who immediately make any traveller feel at home. As a result of this friendliness and also having a rich gold mining past, Tennant creek is often referred to as the territory's Heart of Gold.
