The character that turns the “romantic tale” of Passion Play into a “romantic thriller” and adds mystery and appeal to the story line, Happy Shannon (played by Bill Murray) is a reason alone to attract viewers to watch the film Passion Play.

Q. Can you tell us little bit about Happy? He is a gangster. Is he the demon of the movie?
Bill: Well, I played which some people will consider a bad guy but I think he is just complicated. He gets in the middle of a love situation, creates a triangle without being asked by either of the other parties so I guess he complicates and twists the situations.
Q. Would you say it is a dramatic role but you are also bringing a comedic sheen to it?
Bill: Well, bad guys have got a funny side too. When you see a bad guy you see more than just bad. If it is just bad, then it is not very interesting. I like little light showing out of these creepy characters too.
Q. What makes this the film that you wanted to do?
Bill: Well, it is written and ...
... directed by a friend of mine Mitch Glazer. I have worked on a number of projects with him. He has written a lot of movies and he had this script for a long time and wanted to direct it. I thought it is going to be two couples going for a weekend but than he has written something very imaginative. He asked me to join and I was glad to be asked and when someone writes something that ambitious then I tend to throw in with him and figure out if we can make it work. It’s a hard job and its fun to take the ones that are hard.
Q. What do you see this movie being about in a nutshell?
Bill: Well, you make movies not to necessarily make a point. It may be there very obviously. I don’t think you can tell people what to do, I think you just want to get a reaction to move people and to tell interesting stories that move you. You can figure and execute correctly and do justice, then its kind of moves other people in all kinds of unknown ways.
Q. Have you interpreted the movies end?
Bill: Well, once again you can’t just tell people what to think. You paint a painting and say this is what you are supposed to feel or what you are supposed to get out of it. You do it, you put it there, and you put yourself into it and hopefully they respond. So, what does story mean and what does ending mean and what does the climax mean, they are all just the points that are trying to push people to move some sort of energy around so that it connects them up and down.
