Ibm Lto-2 Tape Devices Assure Long Term Reliability
LTO ultrium is the prefect medium for handling the challenges of shrinking backup windows, time-critical business applications and astounding data growth in modern enterprise environment.
IBM ensures superior media quality and unmatched durability in its tape storage products. IBM is a technical leader, and is well renowned for its innovative and breakthrough media storage technologies. IBM is a member of LTO consortium. The other two members are HP and Certance (now Quantum). These three leading companies are the founders of the LTO ultrium tape technology.
IBM has intelligently designed a complete LTO-2 tape solution that has become the most cost-efficient option for modern information systems, small & medium businesses, government agencies, storage area networks, and desktop workstations. IBM T400 is a high speed LTO-2 ultrium drive that features twice the backup performance of its previous generation LTO-1 tape format. IBM T400 drive offers a sustained transfer speed of 35 MB/s (native). IBM has enhanced the capacity of T400 tape drive’s data buffer to 64 MB, which enables the drive to stream ...
... the data at faster rate without any interruptions. IBM T400 drive features ultra-160 SCSI LVD interface that has enhanced its compatibility with complex array of backup storage environments. IBM LTO ultrium-2 cartridge, part number 08L9870, features increased track density that allows it to accommodate 200 GB un-compressed data.
Your prior tape investment will be secured as the IBM T400 drive features write-read compatibility with the first generation LTO ultrium-1 media.
Superior quality LTO ultrium cartridges developed by IBM are:
IBM LTO 5, ultrium-5 tape
46X1290
IBM LTO ultrium-4, lto-4 tapes
95P4450, 95P4437 and 95P4436
IBM LTO-3, ultrium-3 tapes
96P1203 and 24R1922
IBM LTO 1, lto ultrium 1 tape
08L9120
Other top brands of LTO technology are HP LTO backup tapes, Maxell LTO tapes, Dell LTO ultrium tapes, Sony LTO backup tapes, Fuji LTO ultrium, Imation LTO ultrium and Quantum LTO data cartridges.
IBM T400 is an energy efficient LTO-2 drive that sharply reduces head dissipation and power consumption. When the IBM T400 ultrium drive is not in use, it automatically switches to standby mode to save energy. IBM has designed a new DSM (digital speed matching) technology, which ensures consistent performance when the data rate of host system is not stable. DSM mechanism adjusts the speed of T400 tape drive and matches it with the host’s data rate. In order to further enhance the storage performance, IBM has increased the tape speed of T400 LTO-2 drive by 33%, which reaches up to 8 meters per second. The enhancement of drive speed has helped to reduce the file access time and un-load time to 49 seconds and 15 seconds respectively.
IBM LTO-2 ultrium devices can be reliably used with Industry’s leading operating system platforms including Novell NetWare, OS/400, AIX (Version 5.1 or 4.3.3), Linux (Intel based servers), HP-UX, Sun Solaris and MS Windows NT 4.0.
Enhanced recording performance and capacity of IBM LTO-2 tape technology sharply reduced the quantity of backup tapes required in information-intensive organizations. As a result, the users can cost-effectively store & archive their large data volumes.
