Zoloft is the anti-depressant drug for depression, anxiety and obsessive compulsive symptoms, comes in the group of drugs known as SSRIs. Well, it is also known to cause withdrawal symptoms in those that quickly stop taking the medicine, although there are people who have good experiences with Zoloft, and are able to discontinue without any Zoloft withdrawal symptoms. Doctors generally don’t tell you when you are given a new Zoloft prescription that you will have to deal with Zoloft withdrawal after taking it for a while.

Zoloft withdrawal symptoms can occur at any dosage. At the beginning you may experience eight hours of a missed dose and can last from one to eight weeks. All of your symptoms including mental confusion, joint pain, dizziness, stomachaches, nausea, tremors etc. are signs of withdrawal. The length that such symptoms last varies for different people, sometimes it can last two to three weeks, but in some cases the period can be one month or longer. Some people can get rid of the withdrawal gradually; others on severe degree should go to see a doctor.

When you are to take off of Zoloft, your doctor ...
... should wean you off the drug slowly to minimize the chances of withdrawal symptoms occurring. If withdrawal still occurs, the weaning process should last longer. Generally, in a day your body can metabolize half of pill, and each day there remains half of the amount of the last day, after one day the level is reduced to 50% of the original level, after two days to 25%, after three days to 12.5%, and so on. This is considered a short half-life, and often creates problems.

When taking off of Zoloft, try to reduce the dosage, you can have 100 mg in the first few days or weeks, then down to 5o mg, then 25mg, and finally you skip it away.

When dealing with Zoloft withdrawal, you may have rebound depression. No matter how stressed you become, find ways to cope with. Find a friend who is willing to lend a patient ear. Mingle with friends or people who look at the lighter side of life and have a good sense of humor. Try to have a healthy diet and do some exercises on a regular basis.
