Tips For Planning Walking Holidays
Walking holidays are a great outlet to see beautiful sights and all that nature has to offer. Rather than going for a package holiday, where you get to be in the room all the time, having some outdoor activity can be a refreshing change for someone who is used to the hustle and bustle of city life. Here are some tips to help you prepare for your first walking holiday.
Planning
Any holiday will require planning. You have the choice between hiring the services of a touring company who will plan your holiday, or you can plan it yourself. For your first holiday, it is a good idea to contact a tour operator. They are experts in this field and will arrange all aspects of your trip, from accommodation to meals. If you want to do it yourself, then you need to plan for accommodation, location, transportation, guides and meals. Hence, it is a tough task. Maybe after a hiking trip or two, you would be able to do the planning, but not the first time.
Preparation
There are two parts to preparation. You need to get the right equipment for your trip as well as prepare your body for all the walking you are going ...
... to do. The gear you require would be:
Rucksack
Hiking boots and socks
Poles
Weather specific clothing depending on the location you are headed to
Plus, you can take a first aid kit, camera for taking pictures, sunscreen and insect repellent as well.
As far as getting yourself into shape is concerned, you have to start walking. It would be a good opportunity to test all your equipment as well as getting your legs moving.
Transport
Transport is a big issue when it comes to Walking Holidays. If you don’t arrange for transport before leaving, then you could face a lot of hassle when you reach your destination. You can arrange for cheaper air travel by making an early reservation.
Paperwork
There is a lot of paperwork and documentation to get through, especially if you are going abroad. Visa, passport and insurance have to be taken care of. It is a good idea to get travel insurance, which also covers medical insurance. You are going to spend most of your trip outdoors, therefore, it is prudent to get health insurance.
These are a few tips which people can follow when planning their first walking holidays.
