Holiday and travel photography
The first type of photography you probably get into will be your holiday snaps and to be honest it’s a great place to start. There is no pressure to get the perfect shot and you have all the time to get the images exactly as you want.
Spend some time post production to cull the weak pictures and spice up the ones that have potential. Photo editing doesn’t need to be complicated and if you are not up for the complexity of Photoshop just yet you can pick one of the simpler packages or even use some of the editing tools available online.

Nature and Wildlife
If you have lots of patience and love nature, perhaps wildlife photography is going to be idea for you. Depending on the type of wildlife you are interested in, you might need to spend many hours waiting for the right moment or the animal to show up at all. The one thing you are sure to need is a telephoto lens, you will get better quality optics from a fixed length lens, but zoom lenses are so much more flexible. ... real wildlife pictures and you aren’t an expert my suggestion would be to tray an organised tour or outing. You can always get some practice taking animal pictures with more domesticated varieties or even from a zoo or wildlife park. If you take the pictures with care they might even look like they were out in the wild somewhere.

Portrait and people photography
The best way to get good at people photography, is to practice, practice, practice. There are lots of types of people photography from candid and unobserved capture the moment type pictures, to the posted and formal studio photos. Candid pictures are great fun, probably easier with family and friends but can be done with strangers as long as you observe people’s right to privacy. You can visit public areas, crowded events and joyous occasions being the places to aim for. Unless you want to join the paparazzi that is.

Landscape photography
Having some similarities with holiday pictures, landscape photography is however a slight progression. Good landscape photography relies on capturing something unique about a scene. Perhaps the biggest tip I can give you here is get up early to take pictures, sleep through lunch and take some more pictures as the shadows grow longer and the sun goes down. Choosing the right time of day for your landscapes will have the biggest positive influence on your pictures, you’ll be amazed at how much different the same scene can look at different times of the day.

Glamour portrait photography
At the pro end of the photography types is glamour photography . This has nothing to do with how little your model wears it’s just the art of making someone look beautiful. It takes a lot of experience and skill to get good picture in this area, however everyone has to start somewhere. The most important thing to consider here is light, my suggestion for a first attempt is to pick a large window as your source of light. The light from windows is very directional and when used right is beautifully soft.

Wedding photography
While you don’t want to leap straight into professional wedding photography , you can always get some good photos at weddings. Almost everyone dresses up and looks their best at weddings, as an amateur you can keep your eye out for good photo opportunities that the pro is just too busy to get.
