How To Hang Stripey Wallpaper
If you are planning on hanging striped wallpaper in your home, you need to be sure that you use a level so that the pattern not only matches up, but is straight. When you are hanging stripey wallpaper in any room, you want to start with the wall that will be the focal point first and then go from there. This is because most homes are not completely square. Walls and floors are often a bit off the mark even if they have been built by the best of builders. Sometimes, being off a little bit, like a fraction of an inch, can show dramatically when you hang wallpaper, especially that which is stripes. However, if you begin from the most obvious and noticed place and then work your way towards corners and those that are less obvious, you get the look that you want.
When you are hanging stripey wallpaper, you want to make sure that you have long cuts of the paper and have them all laid out, folded neatly so that you can take one at a time and hang it, keeping in with the design on the striped wallpaper as you do so. It is best to prime the walls first which will make it easier to remove the paper when you feel like doing ...
... so. You should also use a tool that will smooth out the paper, like a squeegie. This will make it flatter and easier to put on the walls.
You want to soak the wallpaper in water before you begin so that it is completely wet. You never want to just wet the back of the paper even though that is where the glue is located as it will make it more difficult to go on the walls. Fold the paper into the water before hanging and have the next piece ready to go. You are then ready to apply the paper to the walls.
Once you apply the paper in a straight design, be sure to smooth it out completely before you hang another piece. You do want to hang long sheets of paper so that there are not so many cuts within the paper. You also want to be sure that you are going in the order of the roll so the design is consistent. This is easy to do once you get the hang of it and wet wallpaper is rather easy to work with as long as it is quality paper.
It is important to use quality wallpaper as it is thicker and will be easier to hang. This is not the time to get cut rate products, but those that will be applied easily to the walls. Some people are anxious about hanging wallpaper but this is actually quite easy to do once you know what you are doing and if you take your time in doing so. Once the paper is up, you simply smooth it out and then hang another piece, working your way around the room. The wallpaper will start to dry after hanging and will not come up around the edges when you do so in this manner.
