Lawn Care Tips For Hot Summers

Lawn care methods and practices are different for different seasons and it becomes most cumbersome during the summer months. Depending on the intensity and longevity of summer at different locations, lawn care practices had to be adapted to suit the needs of your plants and grasses.
In general an average lawn requires 1 to 1.5 inches of watering. In summer, you should increase this level and bring it up to 2 inches or more depending on the height and genre of the grass. It is better to breed an all season grass as they tend to remain green throughout the year making the lawn care all the more simple. Early morning watering is yet another basic lesion of lawn care in summer. For easy water absorption you should water as early as 7 am to 9 am.
Summer lawn care also involves protection from summertime pests and insects. One sure way to keep them away is to keep your lawn dry during night times. In reality this rule applies to all the season but the reason I mentioned this here is that some people tend to water their lawns in the night especially during the summers because they believe that it will help the lawn to ...
... cool down after a hot sunny day. This is a wrong notion and probably one of the many lawn care myths. Night time watering will only increase the possibilities of fungal infections.
Change your mowing style for the summers. The best policy of summer lawn care is to have a denser and taller grass. Tall grass blocks the roots from the impact of direct sunlight all day long. The normal height recommended is around 3 to 3.5 inches but if the atmosphere is unusually hot, then let it grow up to 4 inches. Mow the grass during night or early morning because if you mow it when it is still hot from the sunlight, you are going to burn it. The cut edges of grass are tender and they would easily die out in the heat. Also reduce the frequency of mowing. According to the species of grass you can mow it once in every two or three weeks.
For optimum summer lawn care, use a quality summer feed. There are several new and improved chemical feeds sold in the market that are quite dependable. Alternatively, you can try out some organic preparations that can give amazing results in the long run.
Aeration is a great idea for summertime lawn care. During summer the soil becomes compact and crusty way too fast due to lack of moisture. This would lead to bare patches at places where the compaction becomes severe. Hire a lawn care expert to aerate your lawn at least twice during the summer. This would definitely bring lot of difference in your overall lawn care results.
