Vw’s Self-driving Car’s Highlights
Volkswagen has recently presented its existing Temporary Auto Pilot (TAP) system at a meeting with the European Union as part of the union’s Highly Automated Vehicles for Intelligent Transport (HAVEit) research project. This project research project aims to develop advance vehicles systems that would eventually be used for future cars that would be included on every car makers’ new car prices list for car finders to purchase. This collaborative effort was also designed to reduce accidents on the road by developing operating systems that will help drivers in driving their vehicles on the road with utmost concerns regarding safety.
During the presentation, VW has revealed some of the highlights of their Temporary Auto Pilot system. According to Volkswagen, this system is intended to reduce the occurrence of driving errors usually brought about by distracted driving. This technology proves to be very important since the number of accidents caused by driving errors continues to increase and the TAP would ...
... help drivers operate the vehicle safely.
This system according to VW uses the most advanced technologies to steer the vehicle on its own with minor supervision from the driver. The technologies used in this system are the lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control. The lane keeping assist ensures that the vehicle stays on its lane while running. The adaptive cruise control on the other hand keeps the vehicle equipped with the TAP system at a safer distance from the vehicle in front.
Aside from this, the system is capable of driving at a speed selected by the driver. It also reduces its speed before a road curve and maintains its correct position on its lane. The good thing with this system is that the driver could easily override or deactivate this when needed.
This self-driving system from Volkswagen will probably be subjected to testing to iron-out possible shortcomings. VW however has not yet announced the actual date for the release of this system on the market. This simply means that the company has not yet finalized its plan for the system such as the models that would be carrying this and the auto financing deals that would be offered when this is released on the market. Given this, car buyers have to wait until VW releases their self-driving vehicles.
