Marriage binds two souls for their entire life. It gives the opportunity to the bride and groom to live a life together, which is entirely devoted to each other. Marriage in India consist various sacred functions and customs, which are carried out to make the wedding bond stronger. All the customs of wedding are covered under the stages of pre and post marriage ceremonies. The sole purpose of every ceremony is to make the couple realise the significance of the bond. Each of the seven vows taken in the Hindu marriage is a step ahead taken by the bride and groom towards the starting of their successful married life. India being the land of various cultures, witness weddings being celebrated in different fashions. Every society and the community in India, has different styles in which its weddings are celebrated. One of the matrimonial, which again depict the values and cultures followed by its people, is Kayastha Matrimony.

The bride and groom, in the Kayastha matrimony are made to take vows in front of the Goddess fire, with the Pundit chanting religious scriptures to maintain the sacredness of the ceremony. The meanings of the religious scriptures are explained to the couple, which are the promises they need to fulfil in their married life. All the ceremonies of marriage create a majestic atmosphere and it is said the aroma of the fire purifies the atmosphere. Matrimonies all across India are celebrated with sanctity and high belief in the strength of the wedding bond.
Marriage rituals witnesses different colours of emotions possessed by the people of the country. Along with dance, happiness and joy all around, tears of joy and separation can be seen in the house of the bride. Like all other communities, in case of Kayastha matrimonials, the parents of the bride give away their darling daughter to the groom. They have lot of expectations from their would-be son- in- law in terms of keeping their daughter happy for the lifetime. The promises made at the time of marriage, are supposed to be fulfilled by both the bride and groom.
Kayastha matrimony in the earlier times, used to follow the practises of exogamy and caste endogamy, which means they preferred marrying within their specific sub-castes. The people belonging to of same sub-lineage could not intermarry, whereas those belonging to the same caste and different sub lineage could marry. Though, some variations have been seen in the Kayastha matrimonial, but their practise of marrying within the same community remains the same. Apart from all the rituals and ceremonies, the most eminent of the marriage is receiving blessings from the elders. These blessings keep the married couple away from bad spirits and negativity.
In the Kayastha matrimony, the bride and groom in their respective homes are taught the values of trust and care. Before marriage, they should understand the intricacies of marriages and understand the importance of bond. They are made to realize the delicacy of the bond and that it needs the nourishment of love, support and care from both the sides. Significance of factors like transparency and truth in a married life are taught to the bride and groom. These are very useful and add maturity and sense of responsibility in the minds of the couple. Though, the couple is ought to learn the practicalities and various aspects of marriage, after tying the knot, but a prior session about the life coming ahead need to be introduced to the couple. This helps them in preparing themselves for the future and justifying the expectations made by their life partner after marriage.
