When it comes to vehicle insurance people tend to forget the main asset behind this financial service - the car itself. The type of car, its model, power and other features play an important role in determining how costly it will be to insure a particular vehicle. Some cars are more expensive to insure than the others, and there are many factors that can give you an idea of why does it go this way. However, all these factors reflect only a single yet very important variable that the insurer has in their mind when considering yet another customer - risk. Risk is what determines the final price of any given policy and all the factors that the insurance company takes into account are used just to determine how risky it is to insure a particular vehicle. The riskier it is - the more expensive it will be to insure such a car. So as a car owner, your main aim is of course to reduce the "riskiness" of your vehicle and get the lowest rate possible. But how can one reduce the risk of insuring a particular vehicle if insurance companies have vast statistical data on every car make and model they've ever insured? To much surprise, this ...
... can be done in quite a simple way. However, let's first look at the most common risks an insurance company faces when covering a vehicle.

When a car owner files a claim? When the car gets into an accident, gets hit with an object other than a car or gets robbed/stolen. The amount of coverage in first two cases depends on how bad the car was damaged and the persons in it were injured. The third situation totally depends on how easy it is to enter the car and/or steal it. So it's evident that in order to reduce the risk factor of your vehicle you have to improve the safety and security of your vehicle, which will decrease the coverage amounts in each of the aforementioned insurance situations. And here's what you can do:

Improve the safety of your vehicle

Having air bags and additional seat belts in a car is a common thing these days, however it's not a default. There are many car models that do not offer all the safety features and strip them down to bare minimums. Usually, the insurance company will give you higher auto insurance quotes for covering such a car. So you'll have to spend some money on installing additional safety features on your own. Most car accessory shops have these things so it will be a matter of choosing something within your budget.

Improve the security of you vehicle

The best way to protect your car from theft is of course keeping it in a garage. However, there are many ways to improve the security of your car by installing numerous anti-theft devices. Going cheap is not the best way to go here as there's no point in buying a cheap signal system that won't stop a burglar from breaking into your car. Engine-lock, steering wheel lock systems and other security measures are available so consider something that you can actually afford.

By doing these things you will certainly get better auto insurance quotes in the first place and may opt for discounts with your current provider. A nice way to save money on improving your car, right? Just make sure to inform your insurer about all the additional devices you have installed!
