Vacate cleaning is important for a house, whether you're moving out of a home or need to tidy up a rental home in order to get the deposit back. Below is a checklist to make sure you don't leave anything out and clean up as quickly and effectively as possible.

Kitchen

* When vacate cleaning, empty all of the drawers, cupboards and cabinets and wipe away any crumbs and dust.

* Dust on the top of the cabinets and on the outside ss well as inside.

* Scrub the sink, and, if there's any sticky grime around the faucets, use a toothbrush to scrape it out.

* Make sure all the counters are given a final wipe over.

* For The Refrigerator:

* If it's necessary to defrost it, then unplug it at least 24 hours before you leave and leave the door open.

* Wash the shelves and drawers properly by removing them before scrubbing.

* Scrub down the inside, outside and doors of the refrigerator (and freezer).

* For The Oven:

* Take out the racks and stove top burner pans and soak them in hot water before scrubbing them.

* Scrub the inside of the oven and door.

* ...
... Wipe down the vent hood and clean the filter.

* Wipe over the surface of the oven, underneath the burner and around each nob. If you can remove the nobs, you can soak and scrub them separately.

Bathroom

* Go through any cabinets to make sure they're empty and wipe out any dust or grime.

* Wipe over the tops and inside of the cabinets.

* Wash and scrub the shower and/or bath tub. Make sure to scrub the faucets, for which you can use a toothbrush. Clean the drains and over the surrounding wall.

* Wash the inside as well as the outside of the toilet.

* Clean the sink and take care to scrub the taps well and around the sink.

* Wipe over any mirrors. Newspaper helps to diminish any smudging.

Windows

* If there are blinds, carefully dust each one. For thorough vacate cleaning, you can remove them in order to wipe them down properly. However, if they're made of metal, make sure they're properly dried to prevent rust.

* For curtains, carefully take them down and wash them if necessary.

* Use a glass cleaner to clean both the inside and outside of the windows. Wiping the cleaner off with newspaper helps to prevent smudging.

* Wipe over any window sills.

General Rooms

* Wipe over the light bulbs and the fixtures and make sure they're all working.

* Dust over radiators, heating grates, dust exhaust fans and air conditioning vents.

* Dust the corners of the rooms and clean off any dirt from the walls.

* Make sure there's nothing left in the cupboards and that they're all dusted.

* To finish vacate cleaning, just before you leave, mop or vacuum the floors.
