Interesting Facts About Gold Filled Beads
Gold filled beads are an innovative and successful invention for common masses who cannot afford to buy jewelry made from solid gold. Earlier, when these beads were first introduced, a lot of people hesitated to buy them, but eventually these beads made a place in the market and their sale increased to a large scale. Nowadays, you can often find 14k gold filled beads or beads made of 10k gold filling, as these are the most popular choices of the buyers.
Gold filled beads are made by coupling the base metal, which could either be copper or brass, with gold. The mixture is then spread into layers of appropriate thickness to make the beads. Therefore, this type of gold filled jewelry is also known as rolled-gold.
Gold filled beads contain a minimum 10 karats of pure gold along with a base metal. This material which is also known as gold overlay is highly durable and long lasting because of its thick overlay on the surface. The major difference between gold filled beads and gold plated beads is that where gold filled beads ...
... are perfectly suitable for daily use gold plated beads, on the other hand, are prone to chipping and thus cannot be used regularly.
While making gold filled beads the manufacturers pay keen attention to the ratio of the amount of gold used to that of the base metal. This material is known as gold overlay because it is made by overlaying 14 or 18 karats of gold on the base metal under high temperature heat and pressure. The base metals used for this purpose could be silver, brass, copper or nickel. Gold filled beads made with the base metal silver are usually more expensive than those made using copper or brass. Earlier, gold filled beads made using 14 or 18 Karats of gold over silver base metal were referred to as vermeil, however, later their name was changed to gold over silver. The price of gold filled beads also depends upon the quantity and weight of gold used. Beads made from 18 karat gold are priced higher than those made from 14 karat gold.
Although the gold filled beads are very affordable as compared to pure gold beads, it would not be a bad decision to buy them from a dealer who offers some discount on them. Usually, when we purchase beads, we do not buy a specific number, but we buy them in bulk. Thus, you can bag the most profitable deal by purchasing such beads from a wholesale dealer. Wholesale gold filled beads would not only offer a great price but also a huge variety of designs and sizes.
