There was an old carpenter who was ready to retire, so he told his boss: “I'm old, so I do not want to build wood house anymore.” Although he knew that income would be less, he still decided to enjoy peaceful and leisure retiring life.

The boss considered for a while and asked him whether to help build the last house for their many years of friendship. The old carpenter agreed. As time went on, it was easy to find out that the old carpenter did not concentrate on the house building: he used soft and bad quality material and the handwork is very rough. He used up his last energy to build such a bad house, and he also thought it was ashamed to build this house as the ending of career. After completing the task, he asked boss to check and accept.

Boss came to see the house and held out a key to the old carpenter and said:”This is your house now. Thank you very much for you hard-working of so many years, and this is my present for your retirement.” The carpenter was shocked. It was impossible to remake the house. If he knew the house was built for him, he must use the best materials and the highest craft. But ...
... it was too late now, and he had to live in such rough house, which seems to be the punishment of his behaviors.

We are also casual in managing lives. Just like building the house, we often deal with things positively instead of active action. We refuse to seek excellence and perfect. At the crucial moment, we could not try our best to make everything perfect. We could find many excuses to forgive our slack in life. When we see the end product and need to move into the “house” we make, we feel shocked. People often say: “If I know this result, I will do it to the best.”

We could imagine that we are the old carpenters. We need to knock nails, lay wallboards every day, and do things carefully because we only have the last chance to finish it. Even if we have the last day to live, we need to live perfectly and nobly.
