You may dream of working from home. You may dream of starting a small business. You may want career success in a chosen field. You may have set the schedule of success targets. You may have set your goals. You have made yourself responsible for your success or failure. It's not based on luck. It's not based on other people. It's based upon what I call - the "Success Ingredient". It's inside of you. No one can teach you how to have this because you already have it. All I can do is point it out so you can recognize it and begin to use it for your success.

Achieving any level of success, a level we can be comfortable with personally, varies with expectations and goals. This applies to working for an employer or working from home or in your own business. Often we compare our level of success with that of someone we admire or, in fact, someone we envy. We want what they have. We want to be where they are in life. The sooner the better with as little pain as possible!

This desire is what fuels public fascination with celebrities. They seem to live the abundant life of fame and fortune. What is not seen is their struggle ...
... to get there.

Achieving success, in whatever endeavor we choose, has its own special set of challenges. It's easy to do it later. It's easy to get frustrated and want to quit especially if we have no one encouraging us and believing in us.

Success takes knowledge of the keys and how to use them to unlock your potential. Go here to Jim's Mind Stuff blog for lots of free resources and links that will help you tap the "Success Ingredient" in you.

But, let me repeat: You are the only one responsible for your success or failure. There is no excuse or circumstance that gets you off the hook.

I am a living example. I was born with a hearing defect in both ears which forced me to drop out of High School. Through a friend I got a job in a factory. Later that factory job put me in the right place at the right time and I met a TV News Director who took a liking to me and began mentoring me. Why would he do that? Because I was an avid reader and loved News of all kinds. I could talk-the-talk with him and he was impressed by my knowledge and the way I presented myself. But, I still had to earn that first job in News.

I studied, practiced voice delivery, practiced news writing, for hours and hours for months. I also met with my new mentor every few weeks for a demo of how I was doing. He finally said I was ready for a smaller radio station than his. I wouldn't take No for an answer and continued to pester him for several more months until I was hired by his station. This all took about 9 months of relentless work on my part.

I started Sunday afternoons. Within 3 months I was on the night shift. 3 months later I was in daytime prime time! I went on to be a TV News Director and Anchorman myself.

Someone once said - "Overnight success takes about 15 years". It might not take you that long depending on the level of success you are trying to achieve and how many obstacles you must overcome. It's a fact that, for various reasons, 85% of all new businesses fail within the first 5 years! Discouraging? Well, take heart as you read the struggle of this young man who recognized the "Success Ingredient" and used it to achieve success in his chosen career:

Failed in Business - Bankruptcy

Defeated for Legislature

Sweetheart/Fiancee Dies

Nervous Breakdown

Defeated in State Election

Defeated for U.S. Congress

Defeated again for U.S. Congress

Defeated once again for U.S. Congress

Defeated for U.S. Senate

Defeated for U.S. Vice President
Defeated again for U.S. Senate
Elected President of the United States!
Would you believe this was the life of Abraham Lincoln?

If you had been faced with that many obstacles, would you have quit somewhere along the way? In your own journey towards success, are you ready to quit? Have you ever quit? Has anyone ridiculed your efforts, laughed at you, told you that you'll never amount to anything?

What was the "Success Ingredient" that was responsible for Abraham Lincoln's success (and mine)? - PERSISTENCE!
With persistence, the "Success Ingredient", you too can succeed!

Yours for Success in Life!
