Pas 2050 - Green Standard
The English government is an active player in the drive towards reducing the world’s greenhouse emissions. Part of this commitment could be seen in the government policies which aim to regulate the production of harmful gas emissions from organizations and businesses in the country.
In line with this, the UK has developed a standard for measuring the carbon footprint of goods and services. The PAS 2050 allows an accurate and fair assessment of these services and goods that allows for a consistent method of calculating carbon footprints. It is only one of the few standards available in the world which aims to provide a tool for measuring carbon footprint.
The PAS 2050 aims to provide consumers a standard for determining product and services as being “green” by measuring their carbon footprint. It provides a benchmark for which businesses and organizations could be labeled objectively.
Green advocates contend that the current standard does not include the total carbon footprint picture. It doesn’t include the amount of greenhouse emissions of goods from the warehouse to the shelf for example or calculate ...
... the amount of energy used in their advertising or marketing campaign.
Whatever its shortcomings it still remains to be a valuable tool for comparing greenhouse emissions and carbon footprints. It gives businesses a method for improving their carbon footprint and providing a clear guideline for where to their shift efforts. For consumers, it gives them a standard for measuring the quality of goods and services according to the amount of greenhouse emissions they produce. The PAS 2050 provides a wonderful tool for helping organizations measure their carbon footprint while giving valuable data on how they could ultimately reduce their greenhouse emissions.
PAS 2050 is a standard that allows organizations a consistent method for measuring the greenhouse emissions starting from the collection of the raw materials though its production and disposal. With this, businesses and organizations are able to manufacture goods and provide services that are consistent with globally accepted green standards. As consumers become more green savvy and demand information of the carbon footprint of goods and services they use, companies that adopt green standards & polices will be the ones with greater acceptance and success in their respective markets.
With the undeniable proof of man made climate change, in the not so far off future such standards will become the norm for companies and individuals alike.
