Do You Allow Stress To Rule Your Life?
We can all be a victim of stress at one time or another, but how do you identify when it's hit a dangerous level in your life? Feeling a bit worried or stressed, when you're attempting to meet an important deadline at work, or when you need to get up and give a speech to the PTA, is completely normal. But if you find yourself feeling overwhelmed by life's everyday tasks, too much stress may be to blame.
Stress will affect the body physically, emotionally and behaviorally. Danger signs include:
Emotional Disturbance.
When you find your emotions running rampant, it might be time to recognise the stressors in your life. Sudden mood swings, unexplained anxiety, finding it difficult to get to sleep or staying asleep, finding it hard to concentrate, and excess anxiety and a tense feeling a lot of the time, are definite indications of stress.
Behavioral Signs.
Do you notice that you tend to overreact? Are you impulsive or withdraw from relationships with friends, family, or even your co-workers? Are you taking alcohol or drugs more often than before? It could be that the stresses in your life ...
... are starting to have a negative effect on the manner in which you deal with the pressures around you.
Physical Signs
Stress can have a huge negative effect on an individuals health. As stress builds up, with hardly any release, anxiety may turn inward resulting in both physical problems like headaches and fatigue, to more severe ailments including chest pain, stroke, and Type 2 diabetes, among others. Too much stress has also been linked to some strains of cancer.
Once a person begins to exhibit these danger signs, chances are stress has already begun to affect their daily lives in a negative way. They may be already feeling overwhelmed, seriously tired, or have a list of more serious health complaints.
Depession has also been linked to severe stress, particularly for those people with the disease in their family. Particular care should be taken when the stress factors in life start to impact you so greatly that intense fellings of sadness follow. Depression like stress is eminently treatable with medication and therapy and should never be ignored.
There is a place for stress in everyone's life. It is a great source of power and can help us to overcome great obstacles and face emergencies with clarity and focus. although, too much may be negative, sap our confidence and overpower us to such an extent that we cannot finish the most simple tasks. Stress can make us stronger, or it can make us weaker, leaving us exhausted and overwhelmed. Learning how to spot when you have stress overload, and discovering a means of dealing with it are a must if you want a happier and healthier life.
