The final jewel of the Triple Crown, the ‘Test of the Champions’, The Belmont Stakes,2011, has finally arrived its closure and no doubt the season has been one of the most thrilling and excitement filled, no wonder the credit goes to the long array of upsetting horses right from the beginning.

The race on Saturday witnessed Ruler On Ice from post position 3rd giving a neat run keeping his position in hand with determination. He gradually moved forward to hang in with the pace setter as he chased his immediate opponent Shackleford consistently, as he hauled out of the backstretch he paced up moving to the leading position and dwelling there as he galloped with several rivals chasing him in heat. His performance as a persistent contender ended in a perfect finish in 2:30.88 by ¾ lengths.

Amidst all this action, the much anticipated winner, Animal Kingdom, got disappointedly bump by Mucho Macho Man that almost unseated jockey John Valasquez ensuing in him losing the iron but regaining it only prior to the first turn and also ensuring the last spot with a hopeless 14 ½ lengths defeat. A very disappointing finish ...
... for the startling Kentucky Derby winner.

Shackleford ran the lead starting an angled run toward the inside and maintaining it throughout the 1 ¼ mile of the race constantly chased by the relentless Ruler On Ice who in turn was under the watchful eye of Stay Thirsty. Shackleford hit the 3/16 pole post which his pace deteriorated unstoppably leading him to finish nothing better than 5th. Stay Thirsty tracked the two front runners in hot pursuit ranging up after the 5/16 pole, maintained the pace though not much ground was available only to earn a neat runner up finish.

Rosario’s Brilliant Speed sped like lightning from the 5th post and lashed out threatening the field as they approached the quarter pole and without losing any momentum, Brilliant sped a wide stretch drive finishing third. Nehro on the other hand, tucked along the rails until the first turn and maintaining his ground until the field approached the quarter pole rallying without giving up to improve position by a bit. Nehro finished a satisfactory fourth.

One of the probable dark horses Mucho Macho Man, made a hideous run being constantly pressed by outer pressure from Isn’t He Perfect, so much that he bumped into Animal Kingdom, ran three wides on the first turn and three later and tiring away as he approached the upper stretch. Isn’t He Perfect raced throughout only to draw the closing line of the field absolutely tired.

Prime Cut was never a treat throughout while Monzon who raced on the outside when given a cue on the far turn had already run out of gas.
Master of Hounds, so much to upset the race started with a stumble causing no harm and remaining invisible throughout. Santiva ran a wide race and was completely empty even as Bridgmohan and he approach the mile marker.
