One of the most elementary theories in Chinese medicine is that every part of the body is connected through particular interlinked channels called the meridians. Jointly, these work as an integral structure within your body that is concerned with the natural flow of energy and, in step with Chinese medicine, any interruption that restricts this flow leads to illness or disease. If you want to be confident that you are functioning in optimum health, you will want to start to analyse the meridians by means of Chinese medicine.

The meridian systems are employed in certain branches of Chinese medicine including acupuncture, acupressure, and qigong. To alter any interference to the flow of energy explicit points on the meridians called acupoints are stimulated by means of needles, burning incense cones or applying pressure through massage. There are several hundred acupoints that are distributed along the meridians along with numerous other pressure points that are not associated with a particular meridian. These particular points, when measured scientifically, are observed to be pressure points that influence other parts ...
... of the human system.

These acupoints are connected by 20 meridians and are usually called the 12 standard meridians with each meridian corresponding to each organ. There are also 8 extraordinary meridians two of which have their own groups of points. The meridians are divided into two sets that are related with the arms and legs and then two further collections, which are the Yin and Yang groups. Together they cover all the major organs of the body. For example the Yin meridians of the arm are concerned with the heart, lung and pericardium. Pressurizing or massaging these definite points then influences the internal organs correlated with these particular meridians.

By using various meridians on the arms and legs acupuncturists are able to directly link external points of the body with internal organs. As a simple example an acupuncturist who diagnoses heart trouble will find a Yin meridian on the arm that is directly connected to the heart and pressurize it in order to begin the flow of energy.

You could start to picture the relationship between the internal organs and the external structure of the body by following the Chinese meridian model and establish how the flow of energy requires to be changed and could locate ways in which the body is affected using the various organs. This is one of the more useful ways to use Chinese medicine for enhanced health.
