"Take Care of Your Car!
And Your Car Will Take Care of You!"
I'm sure you've heard this kind of quote before, and I'm sorry for boring you with it, but it's true!
And you must want to look after your car, otherwise you wouldn't be here learning how to wash and polish it.
So first of all, here are the steps to successfully maintaining a car's exterior:
WASHING - to remove muck and general dirt.
DETAILING CLAY - was the first product to safely, instantly and cheaply remove airborne contaminants from delicate automotive paint. It was instantly hailed as a miracle product. Detailing Clay is the only product that takes off stubborn over spray with a single wipe.
POLISHING - regular washing polishing will gradually remove light scratches and imperfections.
WAXING - regular waxing will regain and maintain your cars natural shine, as well as forming a protective layer for the paint work.
Car Washing Polishing:
WASHING YOUR CAR
Be sure to use soap intended for cars, not washing up liquid. Read the directions on the bottle before you begin. Don't decide upon washing ...
... polishing your car in direct sunlight as this will make the paint look streaky.
Hose your car first of all, to remove anything that could scratch the paint work.
Fill a bucket with a mixture of water and your soap. Take a sponge and begin washing. Start at the top and work down, do one section at a time and then rinse off the soap suds in that section. rinse your sponge after each section you wash, either rinse it with your hose or have a bucket of fresh water available.
When finished washing, dry your car with a chamois leather or cloth towel.
Car Washing Polishing:
DETAILING CLAY
Detailing clay comes in blocks that look like soap. It usually comes with a lubricant spray. And again like when buying soap, be sure to purchase non abrasive clay that is manufactured for cars.
Again start at the top and work down in sections, smaller areas at a time for this (about 2 x 2).
In order to really see the effects of this process, get a clear plastic sandwich bag - which will increase sensitivity of touch - and rub your fingers over the paint work.
The process is simple. Spray the lubricant solution onto the surface area and rub the clay over it, this will lift of all bugs, overspray and anything else.
Car Washing Polishing:
POLISHING
Car polish is designed to remove a small amount of your cars paint surface. There are different strengths of polish on the market, some are designed to repair, and some are designed to refine your paintwork.
Be careful when purchasing your polish, be sure to get a light, less abrasive polish designed to increase surface gloss. Polishes are designed for either machine or hand use, make sure you get hand use polish.
When you've got your light polish, apply it to a damp cloth or sponge and gently rub into the paint, work in sections.
Buff the polish straight off with a cotton cloth. It is best when the cars surface is cool.

WAXING
Waxing gives your car natural shine and goes toward protecting the paintwork from the the environment.
It is best to wax your car every three to four months.
You will need a good quality wax, a soft sponge and a clean towel.
Your car must be dry and out of the sun's glare.
And of course work from the top down and in sections.
Apply a small amount of wax at a time to your sponge and rub onto the cars paint, creating a thin even layer.
Be sure not to touch the trim on your car as this will create white stains.
Leave the wax on the surface of your car for about two minutes and then buff with your towel.
Shake the towel out regularly to prevent streaks.
