Companies particularly now have stingent quotas on their must purchase a certain amount of credits to offset their own emissions.

Traditional sources of energy, predominantly the use of fossil fuels, provide 95% of the worlds energy needs. However it is resolutely agreed that with such a rapid period of growth being experienced throughout the world, new and more viable sources must play a greater role in the future.

based upon the previous UK Emission Trading Scheme and it is the largest emission trading scheme in the world. Carbon Credits can be traded privately, over the counter (OTC through a broker), or on the spot markets.

It is now becoming easier to buy and sell carbon credits online and thus trading of credits is now becoming more and more common. The Global Carbon Market grew to $144 billion in 2010 and shows no signs of slowing. The question now however is can investors freely trade credits online as happens with other derivatives and shares- this remains to be seen.
