Practical House Cleaning Tips: Bathrooms (2)
![Profile Picture](https://www.123articleonline.com/images/avatar-default.jpg)
See previous article [Practical house cleaning tips: bathrooms (1)] for the best chores to tackle first in the bathroom, just as a professional cleaning company would do. Once you have set these working, continue as follows:
If you have hard water stains or limescale in the toilet bowl, first use some thick limescale remover gel or liquid. Pour directly over the area and leave for the required time. Scrub toilet bowl with the toilet brush or disposable scourer and reapply treatment if necessary until all the limescale or stain is removed. Rinse brush or scrubber thoroughly and flush the toilet twice. Now scrub the bowl with some proprietary toilet cleaner (but ‘green’ varieties if possible; they work just as well as the chemical ones) and flush again. Then squirt more cleaner up under the rim and around the bowl, and leave to work while you get on with the rest of the room. Leave the cleaner working for as long as possible before flushing a final time.
If you have a shower curtain that is machine washable (most are, even vinyl ones, as long as you use a cool water temperature), pop it in the washing machine ...
... with a small towel or two; these help to scrub the curtain as the washer revolves. Should your shower curtain be non- machine washable, do it by hand in the bath – run a couple of inches of warm water, and some detergent, and use a soft brush or non-stick sponge scrubber to remove any mildew or soap scum. If necessary, soak the curtain in vinegar to remove any stubborn limescale.
For baths and shower walls and panels, clean with a non-scratch scouring sponge and foaming cleanser, or a home-made past of equal parts of salt, vinegar, and baking soda. Rinse well and dry shower walls immediately to avoid water marks when dry. If you have mildew remover working on the tile grout in the same area, leave until you have removed the mildew treatment, then clean and dry the rest of the area.
Polish mirrors and any metal fixings with vinegar and newspaper. This will dry quickly and the vinegar smell disappears in an hour or so, but it is a natural antiseptic, and dries without leaving smear marks.
Mop the floor with a mixture of either vinegar or a little bleach, and a floor cleaning liquid (these will be non-slip when dry and, again, eco-friendly varieties are available). Use hot water and rinse with clean hot water, too, then use old towels to dry the floor thoroughly. You don’t need to kneel down and get sore knees doing this; drop the towels on the floor and use your bare feet to wipe them around the floor to get the last bit of dirt from any gaps or pits in the tiles or linoleum.
Finally, using a disposable, flushable antiseptic wipe, clean bathroom shelves and toilet cistern, lid and seat. Flush wipe away and you’re done! Now tell me your house cleaning skills are not up to the standards of a professional cleaning company!
