Memletic styles of Learning
Improving Personal Managerial Skills
Different people learn differently in relation to the learning technique employed. By this I mean that some people will learn better if physical and practical demonstrations are involved while others will learn better when a lot of descriptive words are used and so on. It has been established through research that it is possible for a person to improve the substance gained and how fast this takes if the person understands his or her preferred technique of learning; or what is referred as learning style, and then works on improving his or her are of weakness. Learning styles are classified in different ways to obtain different results. One approach is well illustrated in the website “learning-styles-online.com” according to whom there are seven learning styles comprising seven styles.
In this site, one takes an inventory test known as the Memletic learning styles test. In this test, one first logs in either as an existing user or as a new user and then answers seventy answers about him/herself. Each question has three ratings: 0, 1 and ...
... 2. After this the program then generates scores for the seven learning styles (each score out of 20) and a unique graph, known as the Memletic Learning Style Graph. The following are my own results of Memletic Test:
Style Scores
Visual 10
Social 4
Physical 3
Aural 4
Verbal 12
Solitary 16
Logical 19
Memletic Learning Style Graph Showing My Results

The program also has a provision for one to compare his/her results with a number of subsets including:
 All users
 Persons of the user’s country
 Persons of the user’s age-set
Styles Scores in Descending Order:
Logical 19
Solitary 16
Verbal 12
Visual 10
Social 4
Aural 4
Physical 3
In order to get a better understanding of the results, I have listed the scores in a descending order above. My verbal and virtual scores are moderate. My social and aural styles are low but I am weakest in physical learning style.
The results are surprisingly close to my image the way I know myself. First, I have always loved to solve my problems by using logic, a matter that has at times made me to disagree with friends. A problem that cannot be broken down to logical patterns is meaningless to me. Secondly, I often stay at home watching movies rather than go to the social club like the other people I know around our home; so I know that I am not a very social person, but of course I’m not a hermit. I have always lost interest fast when it comes to physical matters like games which correspond to the results above, but this doesn’t mean that I’m lazy. It’s only that most physical exercises just don’t interest me. I also agree with the results in that I’m weak in aural style. Actually I can’t sing can’t differentiate a tractor from a track but I can play the piano and I also enjoy listening to music. However, music distracts me when I want to concentrate. Unlike most of my friends, I never study with music playing in the background. However, though I have a good vocabulary at solve crossword puzzles at times, when people talk too much I usually lose interest. I find long lectures unbearable but enjoy reading and can read for hours on end without getting bored.
A high logical and mathematical orientation is vital in management as most issues must be analyzed using statistical inferences and logic and a strong mathematical capability is an asset. Ability to express oneself clearly both verbally and in wring in the workplace is vital in order that those being addressed can exactly understand what is expected of them. In the above two cases, I scored highly and think, i.e. in logical and verbal styles and I think that they would count as my strong areas in the workplace.
The results indicate that I would have to make some improvements in my physical, social and aural styles. In order to improve on my physical style, I will have to learn how to change my attitude by either reading relevant books or visiting a specialist and to improve in my social style I’ll have to learn to be a good listener and to consider the opinions of others. Likewise, I however think there isn’t much one can do about aural style. I believe that improving these styles will automatically improve my managerial skills.
In conclusion, I believe that generally, Memletic Learning Style Method is a good way of assessing one’s own personal managerial competence. The strength of the method lies in the fact that it lets a person to reevaluate oneself and improve on their weaknesses.
