“People Cosplaying as Furries are perverts.”
False. While there are bound to be perverted people in any event, the majority of anyone who cosplays (including furries) are just there to have fun. Don’t mock people for no reason. If they aren’t doing anything inappropriate then don’t accuse them of it.
People dressed up (regardless of their costume type) are there, like you, because it’s a fun thing to do. You don’t want someone judging you harshly and falsely because of the things you do, do you?
“Only Japanese people can Cosplay.”
False. Anyone can cosplay. Today there is a tremendous rise in Cosplay locations outside of Japan and that have as many (or more) in attendance than Japanese conventions themselves. Don’t think that you have to travel to Japan to get in on the Cosplaying fun.
Do an internet search to find events and conventions in your area. You will be pleasantly surprised with all the results that you find.
“Cosplaying isn’t for people who are unattractive.”
False. Everyone is not attracted to ...
... the same type of person. That is to say that, who exactly made you as the all-sayer of attractiveness? Do not keep self-conscious people from having a good and fun time with your unfounded prejudice.
The truth is that anyone can cosplay, regardless of whether or not you think of yourself as attractive or not. If you like doing it and if you enjoy being out and having a good time with your friends then do it. Do not let ignorant people’s comments or remarks keep you from having fun.
“Cosplaying is devil-worshiping heathens.”
I’m not even sure that I should give this comment the attention to even answer it…but it is false. Believing or saying something like this is the fastest way to let other people know that you have absolutely no idea what cosplaying even means.
In the same way that children dressed up for Halloween are not Satanists, people who Cosplay are not committing some made-up violation against morality.
Geeks, Nerds, and Socially Ineptitude
False. You do not have to be socially inept to want to do fun things with your friends. In the same way that every football player is not a raging moron, everyone that cosplays is not a social outcast. While there will certainly be ‘Nerds’ or ‘Geeks’, they are self designated names. People in today’s society are happy to dawn the title of Nerd or Geek because it is now recognized to be a compliment; not an insult.
