R2 certification popularly known as responsible recycling was implemented by the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) of the US govt. designed to advance the environmental practices in country. Responsible recycling (R2) require number of standards that must be met in order to achieve R2 certification. Because of the rise in the environmental issues the demand for R2 certification is increasing more. With the increase in the global warming it has become important for companies to adopt sustainable practices. Companies who are seeking for R2 certification will need to look for companies that are involved in training programme. This type of training is designed to do R2 accredited certification for the process and audit review. A number of standards are requiring meeting accredited certification. Training is very much beneficial as it provides complete training to companies for responsible recycle recognition.
R2 certification programme is designed to ensure the electronic recycler environment, worker health, and security and safety practices. R2 practices include general ...
... principals, specific practices for recycler for disassembling used electronic equipments. The practices are mentioned below:
• Develop and use a management system that covers environmental, work safety and public health safety on site.
• Make a policy that reuse and recover material for EOL equipment and materials.
• Use practices and procedures to reduce emissions during recycling process.
• Exports focus material to the country that accepts them.
• Send EOL equipment that contain focus materials to facilitate the companies who are licensed to receive these materials and use technology to safely and effectively manage these materials.
• Exercise the due diligence to ensure that the downstream recycler and processors manage the material properly.
• Ensure that material used for reuse are refurbished and tested for its functionality and focus material are managed responsibly.
• Ensure that the EOL electronics data going to reuse or recycle are cleared or destroyed.
• Track throughout and keep records and store and transport material securely and safely.
• Possess insurance, closure plans and financial plans to cover the potential risk of facility.
R2 practices are not legal and hence don’t replace any legal obligations for electronic recycler. Electronic recyclers that are doing so are on voluntary basis. In case requirement of a document conflicts with the legal requirement then he must adhere to the legal requirement. So all and all R2 practices build a value for follower in the market and add benefits to it.
