With a philosophy that emphasizes on threat neutralization, simultaneous defensive and offensive maneuvers, and aggression, Krav Maga is an extremely efficient and brutal martial art form derived and developed in Israel. Known for its striking, wrestling, grappling and counter-attack techniques, this martial art form derived from street-fighting skills developed by Imi Linchtenfeld. This dangerous martial art form culminates fighting techniques from traditional Eastern European street-fighting, military combat, Boxing, Muay Thai, Western Wrestling, and Ju-Jitsu.

This martial art is famous and is included in the regular training regime of Israeli Special Forces units and is the defensive tactics system that is used to train the Israeli Police, Israeli Intelligence and all Israeli Security Divisions. Not only to the special forces personnel, this art is also taught to civilians, military, law enforcement and security agencies around the world. Apart from Israel, the Norwegian Military and the Swedish Army also use this art in close combat training for urban warfare.

... which is similar to Judo’s grading system. Grading starts with White belt, promoted to Yellow, Orange, Green, Blue, Brown and Black belts for experts. Black belt holders can choose to move up the ranks from 1st to 9th Dan depending on their exhibition of skill.

Training this martial art also involves grades that are divided into 3 main categories; Practitioner, Graduate and Expert (abbreviated as P, G and E), with each category having 5 ranks. Grades starting from P1 to P5 are the practitioner or student levels. Grades G1 to G5 are Graduate levels and if a practitioner wishes to hold a graduate grade, he must be proficient in all of the P level techniques. The Expert grades are achieved by elite practitioners of this art only and by those who usually specialize in military and police instruction as these grades cover military and 3rd party protection techniques as well as advanced sparring and fighting skills. In order to achieve any expert grade, one must pass through all 5 ranks in both grade P and grade G. Even beyond Expert 5 grade, there exists the rank of a Master and this rank is only held by a very select few elite individuals who have dedicated a lifetime to Krav Maga.

Training organizations in the United States and Europe award grades by following a belt system. This system has fewer grades than the above mentioned patch system; even they follow the same core techniques and principles of this martial art. The belt ranking system with Yellow and follows the order of Orange, Green, Blue, Brown, Black (dans 1 to 5), Red/White (dans 6 to 7), Red (dan 8).
