The Timely Emergence Of Computers
However the short history of computers covers multiple processes and extended human efforts. The shape, size, energy consumption, work load, ability and internal structure of the computer have changed within the time. It had been a great effort too reduce the size of computers from the size of a room to a size of a desktop, then to the size of laps and finally to the hands.
This article distinguishes the different types of computers that have emerged throughout the history. Analog computer is one type of computer have been totally forgotten or in cases rarely used. It is a computer that represents data in terms of physical measures or quantities and proceeds along a continuum constituted by its components. It was used mainly for mathematical equation formation or solving an equations. Scientists or computer engineers and technicians took a lot of time to setup and function the computer properly, and then it took them abundant time to enter an equation and solve it. It was a pretty much difficult effort but the present computers have totally revolutionized the way of our thinking.
The next invention that, according ...
... the older scientists was a milestone achievement was invention of a digital computer. This computer performed functions or stored data in digits; pertaining to binary digits. Unlike analog computers, digital computers can only approximate a continuum by assigning large numbers of digits to a state description and by proceeding in arbitrarily small steps.
Finally, a somehow technical computer emerged merging both the computer; analog and digital. This computer is known as hybrid computer. It can transmit, store and process the data in both digital and analytical signals, and is more like a modern computer.
The analog, digital and hybrid computers were categorized on the basis of their operational system but the following computers distinguish themselves from each other on the basis of their different sizes and functions. Mainframe computers are one of the earliest forms of computers through which the present computers have been invented. Mainframe computers were indeed very large machine which occupied space about the size of a room, consumed a lot of electrical energy, and gave out immense heat energy. They were used to process data in bulk quantities and were usually owned by very large businesses of the world.
Then after a large gap of years, the constant working and immeasurable efforts of scientists bought about a silicon chip for processing, known as a microprocessor. This small chip was indeed a very big invention because it revolutionized the way computers were built and the entire concept of computers was changed. The microprocessor contributed to build all the future computers and the very first computer to use microprocessor was micro computer. It was a summarized version of the mainframe, just given additional features like mouse and keyboards. However, the invention of operating systems allowed it to be used as a personal computers; a computer not necessarily to be operated by an expert.
From then on a series of new computers emerged each smaller or more efficient than the other. The micro computers were shifted to desktop, then laptop and finally the palm top computers. The latest version of the computers is the PDAs (personal digital assistants) which uses touch screen.
In future the computers might be able to equal the strength and capabilities of a human’s brain. There are constant experiments to improve the technology further; however the short history of computers has constituted a lot of benefits to the human way of looking at life.
