Squash Floor Sanding

Squash Court floors are typically finished to a 60 grit finish and left un-sealed to give good grip for the quick direction changes required. This means the court needs to be sanded regularly as the boards can discolour quickly and loose grip as dirt gets into the grain and the surface starts to smooth off. Sanding is an important part of maintenance to keep the surface safe. Most organisations have their courts sanded yearly to keep them within the standard required. This also means that not too much wood needs to be taken off the surface. If the Sports Floor is left un-sanded for years more of the surface will need to be sanded away to achieve the required finish.

Floor Installation

There are two main types of flooring that can be installed. The traditional type of floor installation is the 57mm random length maple board. These are 57mm tongue and groove boards which are secret nailed into a sprung baton. The second type of floor installation is the Junckers Sylva-Squash. This is an engineered solid beech wood board designed specifically for squash. It is twice the width of the maple ...
... board which makes it cheaper to install. The design of the board and the beech wood also means the boards are less likely to crack costing less on future maintenance making it the most popular choice for our clients. These boards are also tongue and groove and secret nailed into sprung batons.

Line Marking

Line markings are usually painted in red although other colours can obviously be used . Floor markings should be painted using Bona Sportiff line marking paint. Floor line marking should be applied with every sanding or installation The service and out of play lines can be installed (Or repaired) with Armourcoat products.

Court Wall Cleaning

Walls are easily marked by the constant contact of the rubber balls which are usually dark in colour. They also get marked with Graphite from the rackets which constantly scrape the walls. The walls should never be cleaned with regular cleaning products as they can penetrate the plaster and weaken it causing the plaster to crack and break off. Armourcoat cleaner is advised which is designed specifically to clean Armourcoat plaster without causing any damage. If your courts have a heavy use this is an important part of Squash Court Maintenance.

Court Plastering and Painting

If the walls are very badly damaged the plaster or part of the plaster can be removed and new Armourcoat plaster can be applied. If your walls are only lightly worn they can painted with England Squash approved paint. If you have a good Squash Court Maintenance programme it is less likely you will need your walls re-plastered saving you money in the long run. Using only alpha grade gypsum with a blend of hardening agents, pigments and resins, Armourcoat provides a superb white finish for traditional white courts par excellence. Unlike some products Armourcoat exhibits no pin-holing, yellowing with age, or surface coarseness to trap dirt and grease, or ball and racket markings. Because it has a smooth, matt surface Armourcoat is easily cleaned so that walls can be kept in pristine condition, without ever needing to be painted. If it does get damaged, its smooth finish can be quickly and economically repaired.

Specialists

Obviously, all this work should be carried out by seasoned Specialists. Only the best products should be used to ensure the correct results and longevity. All Squash Court installations, Squash Court Refurbishment and court marking service should comply with Sport England specifications.
