Arthur Penn Was One The Most Highly Renounced Film Director And Producer

Arthur Penn was one the most highly renounced film director and producer. Arthur Hiller Penn was born on September 27, 1922, Philadelphia, United States. Penn at his early years did not have a wealthy living. At the age of 19 he was forced to join the army. He was stationed in Britain where his interest in theatre started. He started to involve himself in small shows and also direct. Penn’s interest in film became even more when he saw the Orson Welles film Citizen Kane.
Penn’s career in the film industry started with his feature debut “The Left Handed Gun” in the year 1958. His second film was the Miracle Worker in 1962. It was the story of Anne Sullivan’s struggle to teach the blind and deaf Helen Keller how to communicate. Penn next directed Mickey One in 1965. The Chase (1966) was his next film which was also the first thriller by him played by Robert Redford. Based on a satirical ballad Alice’s Restaurant was his next film in 1969. He then came back to the western genre, Little Big Man (1970). Penn’s most achievable moments was when he gave his subtle piece of work for the Olympics, Visions of Eight ...
... along with several other major directors in the year 1973. He lost momentum with critics and audiences in the late 1980s. Arthur continued to direct many films. Penn had no scalene in choosing his genres for his films. Most of his films were postulate and made his films even more special. Penn plunged to a higher level than most of the directors of his time.
Penn had maintained an affiliation with Yale University throughout his years, occasionally teaching classes there. Arthur Penn married Peggy Maurer in the year 1955. They had two children, a son, Matt and a daughter, Molly. His personal life became more complicated in July, 2009 where he was hospitalized with pneumonia. Arthur Penn died in Manhattan on September 28, 2010. It was the day after his 88th birthday. He died of congestive heart failure. Penn’s reign in the film industry was between the 1960s and 1970s. His films Four Friends, Target and Dead of Winter in the 1980s were not a big success due to many critics. The Tony award for Best Direction of a Play was given to Arthur Penn in the year 1960 which was one of his prestigious moments in his career in the film industry.
