Lost Soul
There are times when the souls of the dead roam around and live like they're alive. Not knowing their fate, the dead sometimes cannot accept DEATH.
Doctor! Doctor! We're losing her. The nurse exclaimed.
Prepare for CPR. The doctor commanded.
February 22, 2001 at Maxwell Hospital, doctors and nurses were doing their best in saving an innocent being that was striving, fighting for her life.
Where am I? Ouch! My head. Lynette mumbled.
Did I hit my head while I'm sleeping? It's extremely painful. Ouch! Why am I here? She asked with confusion.
That's odd I can't remember anything about yesterday.
An ideal daughter and the best friend that's what Lynette Marshall was, an obedient, lovely and intelligent daughter. The only child of Mr. and Mrs. Marshall.
She stood up and reached for her diary and begun to write
February 23, 2001
Dear Diary,
Today i woke up with my head extremely painful. Maybe i hit my head while I'm sleeping. But anyway it's a little bit odd that i cannot remember ...
... anything about yesterday. I'm not that old to be forgetful you know. But it bothers mee a lot. I hope can remember it before this day end.
By the way, last night i dreamt of a girl who was rushed in the hospital with blood all over herface. I didn't see her face that much. She opened her eyes then suddenly it turned black...
Lynette turned the page back to see if what she had written yesterday, February 22 but there was no February 22 written in her diary. She begun to think deep while watching the hands of the clock move but she has no memory of yesterday not even a single detail of what happened.
After dressing up she went to the dining area to have breakfast. Her mother is usually the one who prepare breakfast but today, nothing was prepared. Lynette wondered why. She called her mother but no answer. She went outside the garden to see if she was there but she was not. Then she went to her parent's room; still she cannot find her, not even a trace of her father.
Where could have they gone? Lynette asked herself as she left the house for school.
Lynette's school is only 100 meters away from home so everyday she walks 100 meters from home to school. She passes through Campbell Street and crosses the highway, which is in front of the school. As she cross, she noticed that were candles lighted in front of the school and the school gate was closed. There were no classes.
That's weird, why would they light candles in front of a school? And why is the school closed? Today is February 23, Friday, how can there's no classes. I don't remember the school announcing that there will be no classes today. It's not even a holiday. Lynette asked with confusion.
As she thinks deeper and deeper, remembering all things happened yesterday her head started to ache again. It was too painful that she knelt because of it. But not noticing it, she knelt beside the lighted candles. Then the pain was gone...there was silence.
She has nowhere to go but to head for home. Expecting that her parents were back, she excitedly called for them.
Mom! Dad! I'm home. Lynette shouted happily.
I went to school but I didn't know there were no classes today. She explained.
Mom? Dad? She called but still her parents weren't there.
Where could have they gone? How could they leave me alone? She asked herself.
She was alone, waiting for her parents to arrive. She decided to go to their neighbor's house to play with Nanette, her classmate but no one's their too. She went home disappointed. She sat down on a chair, leaning on the window patiently waiting. She was depressed and cried.
Why is everyone around me are gone? Why? she cried all day until she fell asleep.
The phone rang. She woke up. She excitedly stood up and hoping that it was a call from her parents, rushed to where the phone is. But before she can even lift the phone, the answering machine beeped.
Hi this is Mrs. Marshall speaking. We are the Sunrise Funeral Homes right now. Please leave a message.
Upon hearing the message, Lynette rushed to the funeral home without any idea why her parents were there. As she reached the funeral home, she noticed that people from their neighborhood were gathered there as well as her teachers and classmates. As she entered the open door of the funeral home, her heart beats faster and faster there she saw her mother crying over the coffin. Wondering who was in there, she approached the coffin. Again there was pain. Her head suddenly ached again. She leaned on the glass. She froze. She can't believe what she saw. It was her body. She ran.
Now it's clear for her why her parents were not at home. Now it's clear why the school was close, the lighted candles why she can't remember anything about yesterday.
February 22 at 7:30 am, while Lynette Marshall was crossing the street, a speeding car was insight. She did not notice it because she was in hurry, not wanting to be late for school. The car beeped but it's too late. Lynette was hit. Blood was dripping from her head. She was rushed in the hospital. The doctors tried to save her but they can't do anything. She died.
As new day start for the living, her spirit still roam around as if she was still alive. She continued the things she was doing not knowing she was already dead. She was confused as things around her started to become weird and freaky.
All along, as she found out the truth, she thought she was still alive. She doesn't know what happened. She doesn't want to accept reality.
