3D TV is fast becoming all the rage, ushering in a new age of home entertainment that was previously only found in cinemas.

While conventional Active Shutter 3D technology is what most people know about, LG has recently released a patented Cinema 3D version which has caused excitement amongst tech savvy people because it features a revolutionary viewing experience that allows you cinema quality from the comfort of your own sofa.

The following guide will look into this newest of 3D technologies, so you can understand what all the fuss is about.

Introduction to 3D Cinema

On April 21 in Paris, LG launched the world’s first LED Cinema 3D range. Boasting their patented Film Patterned Retarder (FPR) technology that irons out the glitches of other 3D TV’s, it offers guaranteed “Flicker-Free” picture screens which have become the first to earn a quality guarantee certificate from Intertek and TUV . These are two of the most respected inspection and certification bodies to date.

LG’s Cinema 3D range comes in sizes of between ...
... 32 and 55 inches.

Main Benefits of LG’s 3D Cinema

Cross-Talk

Apart from the sterling rating that LG’s 3D Cinema enjoys, it offers less cross-talk in comparison to the standard active 3D screens – what this amounts to, as with their FPR technology, is a smoother viewing experience than what other 3DTV’s currently provide

3D Glasses

In addition, it comes complete with the same kind of battery-free, lightweight glasses used at the cinema, which weigh around half that of the standard active shutter glasses that most 3DTV’s currently provide. This certainly makes a difference when watching movies for long periods of time.

A further benefit of LG’s Cinema 3D glasses over active shutter glasses is cost. They start at about £2 a pair and come with 7 pairs in a box. Active shutter glasses in comparison will set you back a whopping £100 per pair.

What’s more, Cinema 3D has a wider viewing angle in comparison to active 3D because you don’t have to worry about synchronising the glasses with the TV, as with other manufacturer models.

Smart Technology

All LG’s Cinema 3D’s come standard with high-end Smart TV technology – this allows Internet access through a web browser, loads of customisable apps to make your life easier, streaming TV, music services and radio channels, social networking to so you can keep up to date with your Twitter and Facebook contacts, as well as top notch rental and subscription services that include Acetrax and Viewster. And to top it off, the service is streamlined by LG’s Magic Motion Remote Control - a Wi-Fi motion sensitive remote that gives you easy point and click navigation as you relax on your sofa.

Lighting

Another feature which makes the 3D Cinema stand out is LG’s Light Boost – this is a thin film covering the display screen which ensures the 3D images are rendered at full brightness.

2D to 3D conversion

This nifty function renders many 2D images into 3D, so you’re never short of content to enjoy.

Summary of Cinema 3D Features

Here is a quick glimpse of the impressive specifications you can expect from LG’s new Cinema 3D:

LED technology.
Flicker and crosstalk free for a smoother viewing experience.
Comfortably light, battery-free 3D glasses.
Smart TV technology for Internet connectivity.
