Dual-core Technology Delivers Impressive Performance For The Lg Optimus 2x And Samsung Galaxy S2
Mobile phone technology is advancing rapidly these days. It wasn’t long ago that a phone with a 2 megapixel camera would turn heads, but these days, smartphone users are offered features such as 8 megapixel cameras, Wi-Fi internet browsing and downloadable apps from even basic models. One of the more significant recent advances in smartphone technology is the introduction of dual-core processors. Dual-core processors are currently only available on a small number of handsets. Two of the most prominent are the LG Optimus 2X and the Samsung Galaxy S2.
This article will take a closer look at these handsets, and give an overview of their key features, so you can decide for yourself which one comes out on top...
LG Optimus 2X
At the time of writing, the LG Optimus 2X was recently awarded a Guiness World Record as the first dual-core smartphone. The processor this refers to is a 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor. Having dual-cores means that the processor is able to handle demanding functions with ease, and the difference provided by this extra power is especially noticeable when multitasking (running multiple functions ...
... or applications simultaneously). Although a significant feature of this phone, the LG Optimus 2X has much more to offer. An 8 megapixel digital camera with full 1080p HD video capture, super fast Wi-Fi and 3G internet browsing and a gorgeous 4 inch, hi res touchscreen all add to the appeal of this handset. The device also runs Google’s Android operating system. It ships with version 2.2 of the popular software, but this can be upgraded to later versions. The power within the phone means that it will be able to handle new software and applications for a long time to come.
Samsung Galaxy S2
The original Samsung Galaxy S was a real hit for the manufacturer. To date, over 14 million units have been sold worldwide. The manufacturer’s new flagship looks set to follow this trend; over 120,000 units were sold in South Korea alone in the first 72 hours of being on sale. With the technology on offer, this is hardly a surprise. Of course, the dual-core processor (slightly more powerful then the LG Optimus 2X ay 1.2 GHz dual-core) means users can enjoy high end performance. On top of this, the Samsung Galaxy S2 also provides a similar 8 megapixel camera to the Optimus 2X, although users are treated to the latest version of Android, 2.3 (aka Gingerbread). The Samsung Galaxy S2 has double the amount of internal storage (16GB) of the LG Optimus 2X, which offers only 8GB. This feature is only likely to affect a small minority of users when deciding between these two handsets.
As you can see, both handsets offer similar specifications for the most part. If you are trying to decide between the two, maybe the styling of the phones will sway your decision. Well, there is very little difference between the two here as well. Both have a shape reminiscent of the iPhone 4, but the Samsung Galaxy S2 is just 8.5mm thick compared to the 10.9mm if the LG Optimus 2X.
Both of these phones represent the latest advances in modern technology, and offer superb performance. Although trivial, the Samsung Galaxy S2 has a benefits over the Optimus 2X; more internal storage, slightly more powerful processor, a slimmer handset and a slightly larger screen at 4.3 inches. Again, these appear to be the only advantages the Samsung offering has over the Optimus 2X, but both phones are very appealing indeed. Ultimately, being so similar, choosing one over the other comes down to personal preference, maybe for the brand, or getting a great deal on one or the other.
