The Feature Packed Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Steps Into The Shoes Of The X10 Mini Device
Last year we saw the launch of the X10 Mini handset from Sony Ericsson. This phone boasted all of the great features we love about the Android operating system but minus the size that many modern handsets offer. Ten months down the line and a slight tinkering of the name and we have the Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, the follow up to the original model. Are the changes on offer with this phone however enough to convince existing customers to update their handset or enough to entice new users onto this remarkably compact platform?
It is not until you get up close and personal with this model that you will notice any major differences from the original handset, from a distance you would be forgiven for thinking that it was the same model. When you do look closely however there are some differences in the physical design of the phone. Despite the differences in the overall chassis size being minimal, the new model does sport a 3 inch screen rather than the 2.55 inch affair that could be found on the older model. This means there is much less plastic visible on the front of the phone and much more screen. With the increase ...
... in size comes a boost in specification on the screen with an HVGA resolution now possible. When broken down into an actual measurement this equates to 480 x 320 which is impressive indeed given the compact display. Not only is the specification great but it is evident that the developers at Sony Ericsson have given much thought to improving the general user experience on a display which is around an inch smaller than the average large screen device. To achieve this Sony Ericsson have used the four corners of the screen to locate various functions you may find yourself regularly using. When you tap one of these four corners the icons you see on screen expand making them much easier to see and therefore use.
One area where the Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini has been brought right up to date is with regards to its multi media facilities. Whereas the original model sported a respectable VGA video capture the Xperia Mini is very topical thanks to its new high definition capture which offers a vastly improved resolution of 720P meaning result looks superb either on the phones own display or when transferred to a large screen. Still photographs maintain the same 5 mega pixel standard that was available on the older handset. There is one area however that over shadows all others on the phone and that is the general speed at which the phone operates. A new 1Ghz processor ensures the mobile phone runs at great pace with the processor size being more than sufficient for a phone running such a small display. This speed is so good that many experts have likened the user experience to that found on the reputed Samsung Galaxy S2.
The Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini takes a great looking and successful handset and tweaks a few areas with the result being a phone that really is unrivalled if you are looking for smartphone power but in a compact size.
The Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini and the Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro are coming soon.
