Leading To The Legislation Of Zadroga
Zadroga law pays homage to the illustrated New York City Police Department officer,James Zadroga, who died of a respiratory disease to save the victims of the September 11 attacks. The Governor of New York, George Pataki commemorated Zadroga for the first time during the bill-signing ceremony, held at the World Trade Center site on August 14, 2006.This signed legislation was instrumental in expanding death benefits to Ground Zero workers who died from cancer or respiratory diseases. The presumption for the legislation was the belief that the cause of the deterioration in health was due to their exposure during recovery efforts.
Signed by the honorary President Obama on January 2, 2011, the Zadroga law is in reality a Health and Compensation Act for the victims of the shocking attacks of September 11th. This bill, popularly known as as the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, serves to ease the sufferings of the individuals who suffered injuries or illnesses related to either the actual attacks or the subsequent clean-up. It does this by providing a total of $4.3 billion in financial compensation and health ...
... benefits for victims, responders, and others harmed by the attacks of September 11th and its aftermath.
The main aim of this enacted legislation, Zadroga law, is to establish a comprehensive health plan to monitor and treat injuries suffered by first responders and survivors. Individuals, who are considered as survivors under this bill comprise fire-fighters, police officers, EMT’s, rescue workers, construction workers, clean-up workers, local residents, local area workers and school children. The inclusion of these individuals in this act is due to deterioration in their health by the exposure to toxic dust and debris around Ground Zero and other specified areas. People centric approach of this bill is also evident from its role in reopening and expanding a number of elements of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund of 2001.
Zadroga law is a breakthrough for the 9/11 First Responders, 9/11 Survivors, construction
workers, clean-up workers, volunteers and families. More and more survivors are opting for Zadroga law, owing to its effectiveness at establishing a medical monitoring and treatment program to pay for medical monitoring for WTC responder. These responders played a major role during this tragedy by performing recue, recovery, demolition, debris clean-up, and related services.
