What Does Your Doormat Say About You?
When you walk around outside, it is easy for your shoes to pick up a lot of dirt and grime. To keep a house clean from all that grime, a mat is placed in front of a door. This helps people wipe off their mess before entering the home. They also have various styles and can add a warm, welcoming feeling. A variety of material is used to make different kinds of doormats.
Coir mats are made out of coconut hair. This fiber is strong and bristly and therefore good as a brush underneath your shoes. The material dries quickly so mildew is usually not a factor. You only need to hose it down to clean it. They may come with rubber on one side so that it prevents the mat from moving out of place.
A really environmentally friendly material that is used for making mats is jute. Jute comes from a plant so it is natural. It is also quite strong and can be recycled. Again, rubber is sometimes attached on the bottom to keep it from slipping.
A particular company makes Cap Cod doormats in its business. These are original mats that are handmade using their own original cordage. It is very simply made in the shape of a rectangle ...
... using a weaving pattern. However, there are a lot of bright and beautiful colors to choose from. They are also easily cleaned and dried so no growth of unwanted mildew or insects will bother you. They last longer than most other types of mats.
A non-natural material used for making doormats is plain rubber. Rubber keeps from sliding around and cleans easily. They are water resistant so also keeps from growing any mildew. They can come in many different designs.
A more modern use of material is aluminum. It is heavier and so doesn't move around so much even without the aid of rubber. It lasts for a very long time since it's made out of metal. It also doesn't soak up water and so is easy to maintain and dry. Aluminum can also be welded into intricate shapes and designs.
Sometimes people prefer to put in an indoor mat as an added measure to keeping their house clean. Or perhaps for some reason they cannot keep an outdoor one. Whatever the case, there are mats for inside the house as well. They are usually softer, thinner, and more bendable. Most of them can be machine washed.
Although doormats' practical usage is to keep the house clean from immediate traffic, they are also very decorative. You can choose from many different colors, styles, materials, and designs for whatever suit your needs and house. Some can be personalized or custom made according to what you like. Also, they have a warm home-like feeling to them. Often they are called welcoming mats and have the word "welcome" written on them. Depending on what kind you get, it can also tell a visitor a little of your personality and style.
