Tiered Skirt

The tiered skirt can take a variety of forms. Whether it is the literally tiered layered skirt featuring multiple layers of fabric or the latest trend with the peasant skirts to have them look layered when they are really one fabric gathered to create a layered look. The peasant skirt has recently gained in popularity and is a wonderful casual option for a spring/summer skirt. Peasant skirts can really take a variety of lengths ranging from roughly knee length to ankle length as the maxi dress length has recently increased in popularity.
If you like the maxi skirt length, you will see a host of skirts with long length in either the peasant skirt look or in actually layered fabrics. Personally, I prefer the peasant skirt look as it is not as heavy and is easier to wear. The peasant skirt is the perfect casual skirt that works well for weekends or casual events. You can easily wear these skirts with flip flops. The peasant skirt is naturally very comfortable and a great all around occasion skirt.
The tiered skirt featuring layers of fabric can come in many styles including multiple fabric patterns. I've seen ...
... this done with a bohemian style look and I must admit, it is not my style as it seems to overdo the pattern. The layered skirt is, however, something that I could easily see a Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and the City wearing and I think she did wear similar style skirts in various episodes of the show. It is a bold and often dramatic statement and can range from casual to very dressy depending on the fabric, length and style.
Of course with these skirts there are a few rules of thumb when pairing them with tops. As a rule of thumb generally it is never a good idea to tuck any shirts in with these flared bohemian style skirts. Of course there may be an exception, but by and large it is not a good idea. We like pairing these skirts with looser fitting tops such as the Zooey ¾ length sleeve V Neck top or the Zooey Ruffle Bib Top. These tops are looser fits and have subtle details that balance out the flared skirt. You would also want to stay clear of wearing tops that are too long as with the long length of the skirts long tops do not look flattering.
Whatever style of skirt and top suits your individual style, having at least one tiered skirt is a great addition to your closet. If you are looking for just one such type of skirt then I would suggest that you go with a peasant style tiered skirt. I love the Hilton skirt by Velvet by Graham and Spencer as a good middle of the road skirt that has a good length and just enough detail to be comfortable and stylish. These skirts are a perfect casual summer go to skirt for so many occasions and really do balance the wearability with feminine style.
