The Cisco Firewall Services Module for Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series switches
and Cisco 7600 Series Router is a high performance, stateful inspection firewall
included engine application and protocol inspection. It offers up to 5.5 Gbps,
100,000 new connections per second, or 256,000 simultaneous connections and NAT
translations up to 80,000 entries in the access control list. Up to four FWSM
can be installed in a single chassis, providing scalability to 20 Gbps per
chassis. As an extension of Cisco PIX security appliance family ASA, FWSM
providing large enterprises and service providers security, development and
balance.

Apart from protecting the corporate network perimeter against
threats, the Cisco FWSM
placed inside a Cisco Catalyst 6500 and Cisco 7600, inspects traffic flows and
prevents unauthorized users authorization to access a particular subnet, group
work, or LAN within a corporate network. This integration enables the FWSM
intelligent network to provide greater ...
... assurance of investment, low total cost
of ownership and a reduced carbon footprint where power and rack space are at a
premium.

All physical ports on the switch can be configured to policy of
protection and firewalls, allowing the allocation of limited additive setup and
wiring, security and firewalls, basically, the infrastructure network. The FWSM
can be deployed with other Cisco Catalyst 6500 and Cisco 7600 security modules,
layered security solution for in-depth IP service defense.

The Cisco FWSM may be compatible with other Cisco
security services, such as IDSM-2, IPSec (IP Security) VPN Shared Port Adapter
(SPA), the anomaly detection module Traffic (ADM), AGM and the Network Analysis
Module (NAM-1 and NAM-2). Together, these service modules organize a network
solution for a made defense. The integration of service modules in a chassis
allows the use of acceptance and adherence to network administrators. Role of
remote access controls promotes collaboration of managers.

With its
modular access, customers can use their routing and switching infrastructure to
deploy cost-effectively and can do as much as for apical performance handy in
the business community and provides secure IP company service with a multi-layer
LAN and WAN connectivity and routing.

Cisco
Firewall Services Module WS-SVC-FWM-1-K9
is based on high-speed network
processors, which are organized by high achievement, and the balance of
regulation of a general-purpose processor. Cisco FWSM provides industry-leading
implementation of as many as 100,000 new connections per second, 5.5 Gbps, with
a million concurrent connections for each service module.
This achievement
helps organizations meet future needs without requiring an overhaul of the
system. More FWSM can be grouped using the Static VLAN configurations or
Catalyst 6500 IOS Policy-based routing to manage the traffic to those FWSM. Up
to four FWSM can be implemented in the frame above for a total of 20 Gbps. A
single FWSM can support up to 1000 virtual interfaces (up to 100 by the
context), and a single chassis can evolve fully up to 4000 VLANs. Furthermore,
two Cisco Application Control Engine should be used in the Catalyst 6500 Series
chassis to load balance on three FWSM a 15Gbps firewall, more than 150,000
connections per second and two million simultaneous connections.

The Cisco FWSM provides virtualization services
that allows service providers and large enterprises to update separate
strategies for clients or appropriate areas, such as multiple demilitarized
zones (DMZ) of a single physical infrastructure. Virtualization reduces the cost
and depth of diversiform control devices, and it is easier to add or delete
security contexts as subscribers grow.
One of the FWSM can be divided into up
to 250 virtual firewalls Cisco FWSM Software v3.1 or higher. FWSM virtualization
includes the adoption of open spaces (Layer 2) and Routed Mode (Layer 3).
